Vishwaroop - Controversy creats Cash !

So here is the review of the first controversial movie of 2013. Its not a different case that this time its the politicians again who were against the release of the movie. But the funda of 'Controversy creates cash' works very well. Indeed, It was a long week for Kamal hasan to fight for release of his movies but it was worth enough for him to do so as he was worked damn hard not only as an actor but story writer and director. Now, coming back to the Kamal Hasan's creation after previous two successful flop movies he's back with Vishwaroop wherein his scripts target Osama Bin laden and terror post 9/11.

The story line moves from America to Afghanistan and then back to America. The first half depicts how the terrorist is trained in Afghanistan where all the Afghans and mujaheddin fighting with Americans. There is hardly any dull moment in the first half. The transformation from a graceful dance teacher to an agent as well as the back story involving the Jihadis are perfectly screen-played and executed very well.

Rahul Bose leads the local terrorist groups and Kamal Hasaan joins his group as a spy. The life shown in Afghanistan is had, extremely violent punishments but  Vishwaroop doesn't offer you anything you haven't heard or seen before.  Rahul Bose's sentence - America is shedding blood for petrol, we're shedding blood to protect Allah - captures the essence of the plot. Kamal also captures on how the gun-culture has stepped into the children of Afghanistan; even blindfolded boys recognize AK-47s and 11 mm bullets!

The second half of the movie makes a bit dull and too long. Most of the sequences is stuffed with too much violence and action but they are executed to perfection.  This 2 hrs 29 mins movie can be made short of 1 hr 50 mins or so. Cause there are too many un-necessary sequences which can be removed to make a compact product. However, Vishwaroop is all about Kamal Hasaan. He is incredible in all sense. As an actor, director etc. He is the one whom you can look forward to in this movie. Thanks to storyline, there's no scope for usual song and dance routine but shankar-ehsan-loy delivers a nice background score to the movie.

Some of the things which will make you think:

  1. The length of the movie. It can be easily made short with unwanted scenes removed

  2. Rahul Bose make up and his voice. He could have been a more bad man than its been shown in the movie.

  3. No surprise element in the storyline, hence predictable

  4. Neither the Hero in this movie gets dead nor the villain. Hence, concluded that there would be  Voshwaroop Part II. In that sense, Ek tha tiger should also have Part II.

Intentions of this film and the maker are good. Kamal's performance is A-grade. However the film fails, especially in the second half because there are no twists and turns and rest of the story is easily predictable; in other words it needs a bit of Abbas Mastan kindda movie with a bit of double crossing. Rahul Bose is in top form.  Jaideep Ahlawat is an amazing talent and I am very sure, we will hear more of him in the future. Shekhar Kapur is a charming cameo. Both Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah are good. Go for it if you are a die hard fan of Kamal Hassan. but surely not for the weak heart people.

My ratings: 2.8 outta 5!
