Just two days back….It was another fine Day for India. Indian flag fly high again! I am not talking on cricket… This time it is by none other than Viswanathan Anand. Vishy, the Madras Tiger. Month after month, week after week India is getting positive results everywhere. It leaves surely a good feel…. Here stands a tall brave powerful Soldier who defend a great country and represent a billion people plus.

Born in 1969 December 11th, this young man made India's presence in the Chess world, a world which is considered as the world of intellectuals and the kingdom of Intellect. The Indian flag is flying high on the Intellect world…there is no doubt on that. Anand's success is only re-asserting the intellectual capacity of Indian brain. A future promise that India will be looking to lead the world.

Let me have a look into the life of Vishwanathan Anand…(Even with limited research, the findings were quite interesting and upto the mark of the world champion.)

Born in 1969, on December 11th.

Started the game at the age of 6, where his mother Susheela

At the age of 14, he won the national sub-junior championship.

At an age of 15 (1984), he becomes the youngest International master for India.

When he was 16, he became the National Chess Champion.

At the age of 18, in 1988 he became the first Indian to win the world Junior Chess Championship.

After playing in many big games and winning some and losing some, in 1995, Anand played a Title match for the World Championship against none other than Garry Kasparov. (After 8 consecutive draws, first time in world championship history, Anand took the lead. However, Kasparov bounced back with 4 out of 5 game wins. Kasparov describe how he tamed the Madras Tiger in his book on which I have already written a review)

He won many Rapid Chess tournaments where the time of play is much less compared to the classic chess.

In the year 2000 he become the first Indian to take the World Chess Championship home India by beating Alexi Shirov of Latvia.

In 2003 he become the FIDE Rapid Chess Champion.

In 2007, now, Anand is the world Champion again winning 9 out of 14 games! VISWANATHAN ANAND WON THE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2007!!!

(As per FIDE rules, the previous Champion (Vladmir Kramnik who was a participant in the 8 member round robin league) have a chance to defend his title and until at least the year 2008, Anand is the world Chess Champion!!!)

He is only approaching the age 38 where he was in the top 3 place of the classical time controlled chess since 1997 continueously, i.e. 10 long years!!!

Anand who hold 2792 FIDE points, was one of the four champions who reached 2800 points plus at any point of the history, in April 2006.

Won Arjuna Award, Padmashree Award and lot more of them surely the remaining greater awards are simply waiting for some time go to add the glory with more crowns in his head.

Just listen to him to have the character of his…."Once when I was introducing my parents to a chess aficionado, he told them how my talent was among the world's greatest. My father replied that it was not chess but being a nice person untouched by fame that made me great. This compliment stays very dear in my memory." V Anand

"Think you play to the best of your abilities and see how everyone else performs. This was my attitude in 1998, so it's nothing new I've come up with. That's how I go: I turn up at tournaments, play my chess, try my best and see how it goes. I don't see the point of speculating too much. I just like to play and see how things develop." V Anand

I now can see how he can be so cool…even when there is stressful days ahead.

"You have to be able to concentrate and concentration, okay, is a mental thing. But you need physical stamina. Of course, you need to train to concentrate. It is not enough to be able to run ten kilometres. You need to train yourself to concentrate. You can do training exercises like practicing by placing a clock and thinking for half an hour and things like that. It is very easy to get distracted. You cannot let your mind wander." – V Anand

Having said all, one thing is sure. For a country which have a billion plus people surely need more than a Hero. Anand is one of the Heroes the nation proud upon. His name will be listed among the greatest Indian sportsman who inspired and continue to inspire millions.

Bravo Viswajetha Anand…!!!
