I have had “bad credit” for quite some time now due to errors when I was younger and some from even the present. It becomes very difficult when you have no income coming in (ten months now) and have bills to pay. There have been other times in my life, such as when I my brother needed to move to Australia with his wife and asked me to take over his Altima payments. I put the car in my name and months later it was repossessed.

I have not tried to re-establish my credit

very much except for buying a car with an extremely high interest rate and with various little things like cell phone bills in the past. I try my best to pay everything on time, but there are moments such as now with my disability that you cannot avoid.

Since I am agoraphobic (won’t leave my house unless under extreme emergency, although it is improving greatly) I go through things in my house quite often. I may move my bed around or look in the second bedroom in ways to improve it. In any case, I stumbled across an application I received in the mail from First National Credit Card. I had received it months ago and never sent it in with the thought that I wouldn’t be approved. I also get very annoyed that your credit score actually goes down just because someone is doing an inquiry.

I looked over the application which of course had very high fees and you basically start off with $250.00 limit but due to the fees only have about $75.00 credit left over. There is no application fee so that was the reason I sent it in. Even though I am not employed I didn’t lie and stated that with my home number. I forgot about it but about two weeks later received a credit card for me and my fiancé in the mail. We only had $55.00 credit left after all the fees because they charge you $20.00 for an extra card. Nevertheless, we actually HAD a CREDIT CARD! I was so excited that I could hardly stand myself.

Now there is a $119.00 acceptance fee, $50.00 annual fee, 18.9% on cash advances as well on rate for purchases and a one time $25.00 credit increase fee if everything is good after six months. The minimum payment each month is always $30.00 and is due on the same day of each month. All of your credit limit is available in cash should you need that rather than using your card. If you bounce your check to them, it is a $29.00 fee and the same amount if you were to exceed your credit limit. Normally this won’t happen, because if it is over your credit limit, they just won’t accept it. A representative told me that. There is however a $6.00 monthly participation fee that can bounce your account so you have to remember that if you send in the minimum of $30.00, you really only have about $24.00 of credit. They can catch you that way and charge you $29.00 for your mistake.

All in all I have had the card for over three months and had no problems at all. You can get a cash advance at any teller that has a Visa sign. I have had no problems paying the minimum balance or even more since it is so low. You can also Western Union your payment in should you forget also Western Union will charge you $12.95 to do so.

I am pleased with this company. I have had wonderful customer service 5 out of 5 times when I have needed it. The bills that come in the mail are easy to understand and read. I wasn’t able to get other “bad credit” cards that weren’t unsecured like First Premier Bank. This was the only one willing to offer me one without an application fee which I hate to send in and then get turned down. All in all everything has worked out great. If you find yourself in a jam such as I have, I strongly recommend the First National Credit Card Visa to get you back on track. I have yet to have any problems and am a very satisfied customer. Rebuilding your credit is difficult but luckily there are companies out there that although they charge a lot are still willing to help you.

Until next time,

K Parsons
