Dir: Mahesh Manjrekar

ing: Amitabh Bacchhan, Sharmila Tagore, John Abraham, Sanjay Dutt, Anusha Dandekar, Sachin Khedekar

Amitabh has done it again. Carrying a movie solely on his shoulders. He might be 63, but he is still getting auther backed roles and he does full justice to them. As Vidyadhar Patwardhan, retired AI employee, he gets to essay a middleclass marathi manus this time and he fits into the role of an average middleman with elan.

Coming to the storyline, we visit a Maharashtrian family of VileParle east, comprising of Vidhadhar Patwardhan and his gracious retd school principal wife (Sharmila Tagore).Togther they spend their life, fighting, cribbing and loving each other and once a while talking to their only son Amar (John)over the phone.Amar who is in the UK, studying something. The middle class mannerism are effectively handled in the way they mention about Naturals ice cream, the Airplane buzz , the laughing club and the padosi problems. Also turns in Sunjay Dutt, a motor mechanic cum rogue who is once caned by the ex-school principal for his misbehaviour. Things are going smoothly till enters Amar comes to India with his live-in girlfriend. The oldies accept the relationship and alls well. The hindi attempts by Anusha are worth a chuckle.

Amar , then one day, suddenly is killed in a brawl. The freak accident turns the happy family upside down. He is killed by an influential fella and getting justice is not too easy. Amar is framed as a drug peddler and the case is closed. Its up to Vidyadhar to seek justice for his son.

Mahesh Manjrekar has had a flipflop path as a director. Started with critically acclaimed attempts with Astitva, Vaastav and Pitaah he drew a blank with Pran jaaye....., PadamLaloo Prasad Yadav.Looks like Mahesh has found the right path this time.

As for the performances, everyone has done well, Sanjay Dutt, Sachin Khedekar, John Abraham in their miniscule roles. Anuskha is brilliant. Sharmila Tagore refreshes the screen with her presence.Terrific performance maa'm. You can teach a trick or 2 to ur national award winner son. But the movie belongs to BIG B. He makes us laugh, cry with ease. Its great to see scripts writen with him in mind. Way to go BIG B...Keep it up.
