We must accept finite disappointment but we must never lose infinite hope…

Human beings are mere dolls with their hands and legs tied with the unseen strings called the destiny. We think of something, we are almost there….but just before touching it the it vanishes, and with it we lose our hope…

But there are some people who fall again and again, but each time they fall, they stand up straight to face the world ahead. They lose the vital part of their lives and know that the life will never be same again…still they try continuously to overcome each and every barrier. They are ready to go against the time, the system, and the cowardly world…there comes Viruddh….a superb movie with a real life story….

Many of my friends had suggested me to watch “Viruddh”, but I had not watched it till yesterday. Yesterday it was coming on TV and I was doing nothing so thought of watching it. And I must say that all of my friends were correct about the movie…I was relieved to see another movie without any song-dance sequences!!

Story :

Well, I am going to just give a brief idea about the story…as I doubt there will be hardly any one who has not watched it till now!!

So the story is all about an elderly couple, Vidyadhar patwarhan and sumitra patwardhan, their son, Amar and their daughter-in-law Jenny, a British girl…

Vidyadhar is a retired air force official and Sumitra is a retired schoolteacher. Amar works in London. Amar and Jenny come for some days to India. During their stay something happens which makes their world to collapse. Amar is killed by the son of the home minister and the so called system blames everything on Amar, creates an illusion that Amar and Jenny are drug dealers and Amar was killed by some other of his team…the son of the home minister has nothing to do with it…he was not at all in the town at the time of the incident…

Vidyadhar fights against the system to prove that his son was innocent…he wants his son to rest in peace, which will be possible only when the dead Amar is proven to have no connection with any kind of illegal things. Vidyadhar patwardhan knew it was true…he wanted that the whole world should also know this…he wanted the whole system to feel proud for his son as he did when Amar fought against the crime and lost his life….

My views :

This was indeed a brilliant movie. While watching the movie I felt suffocating…I needed some free air…some time to think over it… Is this the India we are proud of ?…is this the system we believe on?…God forbid…but if something actually happens like this to our near and dear ones then who will help us? For the first time I felt insecure. My mother always tells me that the world outside is too big and too dangerous, I never felt like that, but after watching this movie I felt as if I have lost faith on the whole world…criminals are all over there and there are people who actually help them. And the innocent people sacrifice silently!!

Witnessing a crime happening is another bigger crime…still we do, because we don’t have that courage to stop the crime…we don’t have the courage to do all those things a true member of the society should do…but we just stand and watch it happening…then shut our mouths as if we were deaf, dumb and blind at that moment. And when somebody actually works against the crime, s/he is punished, even for those things which s/he had never done.

And we, the society, watch it silently…that means we admit that we are cowards and we can’t do anything else except keeping our mouth-shut.

But Vidyadhar patwardhan and Sumitra did not do that. They fought for their dead son’s prestige. This was the story in the reel life…but there are very few examples which actually happens in our country that creates an history in itself …how to fight against every so called system…

Everyday we read and see news of crimes in our neighborhood and in our country, but what is the proof that these were not stories made by our system to save someone else!! Just writing and speaking and waiting for others to take action is coward-ness.

We watched the movie…talked over it as if a debate competition, wrote articles as if an essay competition, and forgot that…Vidyadhar said yeh sannata humen jeene nahin de raha hai… because we know that something had happened and the soundless environment makes us to remember that again and again, it makes us feel that we have lost something that used to be the music…the rhythm for our life to go on.

Ammitabh Bachhan had done a terrific job as Vidya here. Same can be said about Sharmila tagore as Sumi. John Abraham as Amar also done full justice to his character. Anusha dandekar was good though she had a short role. Similarly Sanjay Dutt as Ali was the perfect choice for the mechanic having a criminal background but still having a soft corner for the innocent people…

The first half of the movie makes you to look into the life of an aged couple…who takes care of each other, loves each other…love to fight as if newly married…get pleasure when with their family & friends and love to help others.

Then the second half makes you to look into their life once again but this time you see them as soldiers fighting against time…

My favorite scenes were when Amar was about to die and Vidya comes…they look into each others eyes without blinking because they knew even one blink will make them to miss too much…

….The scene where Sanjay Dutt bashes up the lawyer…where the small girl tells Vidya how she lost her entire family…when Vidya goes to the killer of Amar and shoots him…

I am not concluding this review…there is no conclusion…one conclusion will lead to another topic to talk about…
