Deepa Mehta, a very well acclaimed Canadian director, seems like to have got inspiration for this movie from "Provoked" and a kannada play "Naga Mandhala" for the two halves of the movie which really dug its grave.
Preity Zinta, plays a punjabi girl, who gets married to a canadian guy through arranged marriage, arrives in Brampton, Ontario, which has a very high concentration of punjabis in real life, endures the abuse of her husband, and simultaneously gets affection from an indian serpent, taking the form of her husband when he is not around, obnoxious as it gets.
Preity delivers a reasonable performance, but the storyline masks it so much that it is a farce.The dowry issue, the chain sponsorship migration issues are brought out well.The movie is shot in a mix of colour and black and white, that swerve in and out so quickly without a proper context is baffling
