Victory : Of Ups and Downs. Review on Victory Movie

I was always awaiting this one as this talks about cricket. Victory had nothing workin its way right from the very beginning.

A Boy whose debut was out of the biggest disasters of 2008, he was bashed all over, Victory had a new director, new producers everything which makes a movie not work. And hell Yea it isnt working at the box office and at the counters.

Anyways, I watched the movie cuz I never go by those idiotic critics who praise a movie on the amount of check that they get. Here is a little scanning of Victory ...

PLOT SPOILERS

A Small Town boy has been struggling to make it even into the state team. Its been 7 years that he has been practicing and still hasn't been able to make it to the team and that too in-spite of a good run for the past 7 years.

One day luck shines on him and the Coach of the Indian Cricket Team notices his talent and recommends him to be picked into the Ranji Team of Rajasthan. This was the opening Vijay Shekhawat was looking at. After having an excellent debut in the Ranji Season, He gets picked for the Indian Cricket team and goes higher and higher. His success and his fame, all that he credits to his Daata ( father ).

Comes in man in his life Andy Singh ( Gulshan Grover ) who proposes Vijay to give all his deals and business management to him, instead he ll make Vijay the richest sportsman in the world. Now who doesnt like Money, Vijay agress and they enter the deal. The lifestyle of Vijay totally changes due to Andy. His form goes away and he starts failing at the crease.

No later he is issued an ultimatum from the coach that if he doesn't play well in the forthcoming match, he will be chucked out. Vijay doest want that to happen he goes to practice extra hard and injures himself but on recommendation of Andy he hides his injury which pops up in the match and he war irresponsibly run out. The downfall starts from there and every one turns away from him, from father to girlfriend.

This is when he realizes that for money he has a lost a lot, specially the faith that the crores of fans had in him. He gets back like a tiger and comes back to make an impact, wiping off all the sins that he had done.Now the story may not seem to be a state of the art one, actually its been done earlier without cricket as a backdrop. Victory has a few plusses and a few minuses.

Minuses :

The movie is long, actually pretty long. Some of the scenes cud ve been cut to keep the length a little shorter. The Music is a problem area too. Apart from Balla Utha, there is no song which actually clicks. The story idea of the protagonish wanting to be BIG, falling a prey to evil intentions and then comnig back for a win has been done a lot of times and most of the times with more conviction than Victory.

Plusses:

The movie has a few scenes which are good to watch.The biggest plus of the film is Harman's performance. Harman was not bad in his first film and he is better in this one. He emotes with ease and doesn't need footnotes to clarify his expressions.

He doesnt need a "tujhme rab dikhta hai" in the background to tell the viewers that he is in love. Harman is working hard and this will take him somewhere. For sure. Other performers are quite good while Anupam Kher is the best of all of the supporting cast. Now one thing, I read a few critics writing that the success of Vijay shown is hard to beleive. Aree Kyun bhai ??

Havent 3 Centuries in 3 matches been done before ? Hasnt a century on Debut been done before ?? Havent chases for scores over 300 been done before ??Hasnt 6 Sixes in 6 Balls been done before ?? Sale Ainwe Gadhe log ...Direction is a weak point of the movie as Mangat isnt able to concentrate of characters of others apart from the protagonist. But then this is inexperience showing.Donno what but then this is a strictly average affair with Harman's performance as the high point of the movie.
