Hi guys Iam here to help you out with something that I have to say about vicks vaporub when applied on children.

Firstly let me tell you an experience my family had faced. I have a cousin sister she is 1 year old now. If I remember correctly it was was when she was 8 months she had severe nasal congestion. That's is when her mother my aunt applied vicks over her nose and she said she also applied some amount in her nose. Within 1 hour baby started to show vigorous reactions like reddening of nose watering from eyes and recurrent sneezes. We took the baby the hospital and they said it was severe respiratory distress due to excess of mucous produced from the mucous glands in the nasal epithelium. The respiratory passage of neonates are smaller when compared with the adult and small excess amount of mucous can block the air passage, after 9 days of hospital admission she became normal.

Doctor said that vicks contained camphor which when absorbed can become reactive. Moreover when it is applied into the nose there is more chance that it get absorbed directly in to the blood stream. I also advice you guys not to inhale vicks along with steam as our alveoli ( small air containing bags in lungs) has small blood vessels which may break while doing so.

For an adult it is okay to apply over the chest and throat but beware while you apply over the nose or within the nose.
