Indian cinema matures a little bit...

Watching Indian movies of any language has been painful of late. V V is a refreshing break from the Karan Johar spin train of really hopeless story lines.

It is also a break from barely grown up 18 year olds gyrating to raunchy numbers in Tamil movies.

The movie is not without its own shortcomings, motivated by improper planning, the need to fulfill "fans' aspirations" and so on. However, it has several elements, that are commendable. The outlook of Prakash Raj, Kamal Haasan and Jyothika is characteristic of normal people stemmed atleast a little in reality.

The theme of a grown man, marrying a very recently divorced woman is handled without the usual load of "widow/divorcee" remarriage hype. The portrayal of the way the two characters grow close to each other is very good, despite the highly imaginable set of circumstances that set the stage for their romance.

There is still a lingering element of "We Indian cops are better" in the movie, but it is downplayed enough that it is tolerable though not desired.

Having seen too many cop movies, horror movies and suspense movies, I believe almost every good plot has been exploited, so the thinly veiled plot line did not bother me. If you are looking for too many twists and turns, this movie is definitely not for you.

There is a downward trend in the movie which is the use of certain yet - to - be accepted social and personal preferences (the twist of words is to keep the plot intact) in conjunction with the plot.

However, in retrospect, the movie stands a little above the standard fare of the "good cop, really bad villian" theme.

Kamal Haasan and Gautam take Indian cinema a step closer to reality without taking two steps backward. It is refreshing to see a movie closer to reality than surreal, oversized bungalows with quixotic familial love, bonding and other BS.
