Parallel stories in period films

Gladiator - back drop revenge, main focal point politics of the roman empire

Asoka - back drop love story, main focal point rise killing off bloodlines and morals for power

VEER - main focal point love story AND duty before bloodline AND fighting for your given right

In my book, you cannot have a period film with three major focal points - I am yet to understand whether the film was a love story or a father-son relationship or the fight for a promised land. I believe this is the main reason why people are criticising the movie so heavily, they simply don't know what the entire movie was about and the entire blame should go to the director Anil Sharma because while watching the movie I think you realise that he, himself doesn't know what the hell he is on about.

Added to that some childish scenes of pindari's going to London and speaking in American accents, some ridiculous dialogues where Salman is mouthing off that he will take out 5 kilos of flesh from'whoever opposes him', Jackie Shroff's right hand is chopped off so he uses a ridiculous gold replica with diamonds on too shake hands with people. The ending of the film is on a height of Stupidity that only Anil Sharma could've thought of!

Its real sad because the movie does have a good storyline - well it has three major storylines but one of them is real good and that happens to be the one where the king deciepts his loyal pindari's and the pindari's want to avenge that but ending his reign as king and taking control of their promised land.

Salman Khan is good in some portions but the age old critiscm arrives of his inconsistency throughout the movie in terms of performance and look. Zarine Khan is horrible, I laughed my head off at some of her facial expressions. Sohail Khan is an Idiot but then again most of us are aware of the fact. Mithun and Jackie are the stars of the film, the only people who look natural and actually seem to know what they're seem to be doing. Neena Gupta, Puru Raj Kumar, Aryan Vaid all need a change of career. The British actor that was seen in'I proud to be an Indian' is a TOP MAN - mans got style, acting of course is a cause for concern. I dont know what the hell Lisa Lazarus was doing in the film and why on earth she was taken for this.

Surili Ankhiyon Wali, fine its a good song but how many times do you have to play the God damn song throughout the movie? Salam Aaya is a nice track with some awful dress sense by Salman, Zarine and Lisa. Meherbaaniyan is rubbish, Taali Maar is pretty good if you can ignore Salman's sudden appearance in orange trousers. The background music by Monty is ridiculous, makes no impact to the movie whatsoever!

The cinematography for the scenes based in India are really good, the ones for London are laughable - it seems that Salman Khan and Sohail Khan are dressed as Idiots roaming around London in 2010 when the film is set in 1875. The rest of the technical aspects are typical Anil Sharma standards since he hasn't really moved on from the 80s

The action scenes are well done as you would expect from a period film. Although majority of the gore was cut in the UK cinemas, you could still see an effort was made too atleast make it look authentic for its time.

Anil Sharma - I think he's still riding on the success of Gadar - I have no problem in masala but atleast know what on earth your making!

A disappointment but far better than Main aurr Mrs Khanna, that I can guarantee!
