INTRODUCTION

I had been wondering whether I should go to college or stay at home and study. I got myself in a bad state to reach a decision about the studies when my friend called me to go for some movie which we can get the tickets.

Veer-Zara was running in Aluva at 3PM in the better theatre. The result was the flow of sentiments known as Veer-Zara, may be overtaking Kal Ho Na Ho with higher emotions.

As the theatre was almost empty and the others came for howling only, I made my highest score in Space Impact+ in mobile. As the movie was too slow, it was necessary to look on the screen only for some time as the emotions let the movie more and more stretchy that I found it difficult to keep me up from sleeping. But as we reach the end of the movie, it is hard to miss any moment, it had one hell of an ending.

STORY

After a romantic song with the name of the crew written on the side, we see a weak old prisoner in jail (our hero!). A young lawyer Saamiya (Rani Mukherji) gets her first case and she is on the side of the Human Rights Commission.

She is now working for the release of an Indian prisoner who had been in the Pakistani prison for twenty two years. As Veer tells his life story to Saamiya, we can figure out what is coming next, be prepared to let your emotions capture you.

Veer Pratap Singh (Sharukh Khan) is on his rescue operations which he finds more thrilling than anything else. He is satisfied with the fact that he has saved a number of precious lives.

On his usual run of life, he manages to save the life of Zara (Preity Zinta) who has come to India to complete the final wishes of her grandma (not by blood relation). Veer helps her in her mission.

Before going back to Pakistan, Veer asks her to visit his home. After spending some time with Veer and his family, as she returns home. As Veer is about to tell her about his love for her, he comes to know about the fact that she has got a fiancee. But he still tells her about what was in his mind before she goes. After reaching Pakistan, Zaara feels that Veer is the right one for her.

When Veer comes for his love crossing the border after resigning from the Indian air force, he just loses himself as he is arrested accused as a spy by the political influence of Zara's fiancee. Now after spending 22 years in jail and may be completing a ''half-century'' age, the scope for the return of Veer has come alive - will it become true? What will be the state of Zara? Emotions are running wild!

PERFORMANCE

Yash Chopra has done a wonderful job in making one of the weakest and smallest stories expand into a big movie! It seems as if he has added some special ''emotions'' to the movie. Sharukh Khan is just outstanding in the movie.

I don't think that this movie would have made this much impact without Sharukh. He is having a great run from Kal Ho Na Ho and Main Hoon Na through Veer-Zara and I wonder how Swadesh is going to be like.

Preity Zinta has shown her acting skills yet again. She has gone a long way through her career from Dil Se and Soldier. I am glad that she got that freaky hairstyle in Lakshya out of our sight - that makes me sick. Sharukh-Preity combination just seemed to recreate the wonders of Kal Ho Na Ho.

Manoj Vajpayee is OK in the special appearence and so is Amitabh Bachan and Hema Malini. I wonder in what style the last two are speaking. I need a translator! Why don't they just slow down? Rani Mukherji looks determined just as her character. Anupam Kher shows again that he is a veteran in this field.

The movie got a number of loop holes. It gives us the great message of the similiarities between India and Pakistan and the final victory of love. But ''the love at first sight'' theme still continues here. A patriotic love story may be what this one is.

What I got from this story is that if you love some girl you don't know or is far away from you, it is bad for your health. Poor Veer, he could not find a girl in India that he had to go for Pakistan! Atleast all ended well and the climax was rocking!

CONCLUSION

I went to the ''over hyped'' movie even after my friends in college warned me that it is going to test your patience. That may be the reason why I found this one better than I expected. But I find this movie, by no way practical. Each dialogue had too much space between them that we could speak lots of things in between.

If you need a patience testing device, this is the one. I did find it hard to see that the time was moving too slow in my watch. Each minute seemed to be an hour. I wonder how hard they may have tried to make this movie this much lengthy.

The sentimental songs do the most of the job. They are nice to hear so that we keep sitting there! I will not give this movie a global recommendation because it is mainly meant for emotional people and Sharukh's fans.
