Main yahan hoon.... tum kahan ho ?. Review on Veer-Zara

Watching this movie was an experience. I found myself moved to tears more than once. And that’s saying a lot, since I use my tears very sparingly.

Love

Veer-Zaara speaks the language of love. If you have loved somebody and lost, this movie is for you. If you have loved somebody and won, then again, this movie is for you. If you have met the one you love, watch it. If you have never seen the one you love, then watch it. (Now don’t ask me how that is possible. It is possible).

It talks of love so sublime that it almost hurts. It talks about ethereal love, love that is above the desires of flesh. Love that shakes the heavens and changes the course of lives. Love that surprises you with its intensity and power. Love that renders you, a thinking individual, totally helpless. Love that transforms destinies.

India

Veer-Zaara shows India in the most glorious colors and hues. The song ‘Aisa desh hai mera’ speaks of India with so much spirit that you can’t help feeling proud of your wonderful nation. Rural India has been shown in a very realistic manner and yet, so grandly. Beautiful fields full of flowers, blue skies and gushing waterfalls. Thunderstorms and golden sunlight. Lohri fires, village hockey matches and cart rides.

Rani

She looks classy and dignified and gives a powerhouse performance. She is the shining example of the modern womanhood who daresto walk on the path of justice and truth against all odds. She is the life of the movie and gives the much needed stark relief when mush gets overboard. Watch her striding determinedly across the corridors of courts and jailhouses. Watch her smiling tenderly at Veer and saying ‘To aapko unse mohabbat ho gayi…’ Watch her nervous expression when she stands up in front of the judge for her first case. Watch that nervousness dissolve into a fantastic speech delivery the moments she sees Veer give her a thumbs up.

Shahrukh

The loverboy with the most charming smile. He is absolutely endearing as Veer. He breezes through an effortless performance. He simply excels, as the golden boy with dreams in his heart that must be sacrificed on the alter of love. Watch his hurt expression when he realizes that Zaara is already engaged. Watch him promising Zaara’s mother that he will never take away her daughter without her permission. And he looks absolutely drop dead handsome as a rescue pilot. Most of all, watch him looking endearingly and proudly through an old man’s eyes at his young, determined lawyer.

Preity

Preity looks absolutely gorgeous. She is a fairy, an angel, a doll. Sorry for going overboard but she is really stunning with minimal makeup and pastel colored suits. She looks innocent, vulnerable and acts perfectly. Watch her getting amazed with the first realization of love in ‘Do pal’. Watch the determination on her face as she confesses to her mother about the man who can give up his life for her. Watch her puzzled helplessness when Veer haunts her in ‘Main yahan hoon’.

The music merges with story seamlessly and let me be honest, I wept unabashedly in ‘Tere liye’. Of course, my favourite is ‘Main yahan hoon’….which conveys the essence of being in love - Love means seeing your loved one everywhere, thinking about him all the time, looking for him in every nook and corner and finding him omnipresent.

The direction is top notch and there was not a single moment when my attention wandered. The rest of the cast performs superbly

Now my question is : Will I watch this movie again ? Oh yes, again and again.
