The film was hailed as a hit; I know why: the name Shah Rukh Khan. The music was well talked about; I know why: late Madan Mohan. It is called a classic love story; I know why: Yash Chopra told so. The name of the film is Veer-Zaara; but I don?t know why!
The film wanted to tell: Novice lawyer Samiyah Siddiqui wants to fight for the release an Indian prisoner in Pakistan jail. The reason for choosing him for her first case is an open issue, but the reason for the prisoner, who has never spoken to anyone in 22 years, to speak to this stranger is that, she is the first person in 22 years to identify him: Veer Pratap Singh, ex-squadron officer in Indian Air Force.
Veer saves the lives of unknown people by putting his life at stake. Likewise, he saves a charming Pakistani woman: Zaara Hayat Khan. The bold and the beautiful fall in love. But Zaara?s politician father has other plans for his daughter. And to save her family?s respect, Veer and Zaara sacrifice their love.
Turn of events lead Veer to lose his identity and remain as prisoner in Pakistan.
Now it is for Samiyah to unite the star-crossed lovers.
The film told: The film starts with Shah Rukh enjoying the beauty of nature, swaying himself gracefully with the flow of the breeze. His beloved running towards him suddenly falls down. And he wakes up from his dream. But I am not sure if any prisoner ever exists, who dreams beautiful illusions after staying in prison for 22 years.
Then Shah Rukh tells his story to Rani Mukherji. He loved Preity Zinta and they got separated. The families, festivals, sacrifices, tears, etc continue everlastingly. And story ends on one ?bus-strike? day. So Shah Rukh and Priety walk through the Indo-Pak border biding good-bye to Rani.
Arey Yaar! But where is Veer and Zaara?
