Veer Zaara is definately an enchanting album, with the wonderful lyrics of Javed Aktar, the enlightening music by Madan Mohan, and the voice of legendary, Lata Mangeskhar. What more does a successful album need? Recent Indian albums contain a lot of those item number songs sung by Sunidhi, and half a dozen of those, ''Mujhe tumse mohobbat hai'', type of songs, which really make listening to Indian music a bore at times. However; I found Veer Zaara a unique album, whose songs really touched the heart, mind, and soul. Tere Liye is my most favorite song out of the entire album. It is rendered by Lata Mangeshkar, and Roopkumar Rathod. I think Roopkumar does an outstanding job rendering his lines in the song, but I don't really think Lata's voice suits the song very well; however, it is really nice to hear her voice after a while. I personally would have chosen a singer with a sweeter voice, like Alka Yagnik, or Sadhna Sargam, whose voices would have uplifted the song a bit more. The music of this song is quite well done, and the sound of the piano makes you feel relaxed, and allows one to dream a little. The next song, Aisa Des Hai Mera, is rendered by Udit Narayan, and again, Lata Mangeshkar. This is one of those patriotic songs, which you rarely hear in music albums these days, and I really admire it. The song flows quite well, and has a lot of substance. Udit Narayan does a fabulous job, as he always does in every song he sings, and Lata sounds much better in this song compared to Tere Liye. Do Pal is an emotional song rendered by Sonu Nigam, and Lata. Sonu Nigam sounds really nice throughout the entire song. His voice allows the song to compile, in comparison to Lata, who simply just doesn't have the ability anymore to sing the songs she used to. Her voice, again I find doesn't help the song to flow. I think this time I would have used Asha Bhosle for this song, as her voice still sounds much better than Lata's. Don't get me wrong. I do admire Lata; however, her voice just doesn't suit anymore songs very well. Jane Kyon is a solo song rendered by Lata. She sounds better in this song than in Do Pal. Her voice is a bit shaky; however, she does manage to hang onto the rails pretty well, and she manages to allow the flow through the song to go quite smoothly. The music is quite simple in this song, and isn't overly done. It too flows nicely, and allows the song to compile with versitality. ----------------Phew!! not close to even being done yet!!!------------------------ Eventually, we come across to another number, a Punjabi Song!!. The music of Lodi is quite catchy and a fast-paced number compared to the rest of the songs in the album. Gurdas Mann sounds quite nice in the song, whose voice is picturized on Amitabh Baachan. Lata is yet again in the song, but I don't think I need to tell you what I think of her voice!!! But her voice is picturized on my all time favorite actress, Hema Malini!!!. It's good to see a legendary singer, singing for a legendary actress like Hema! Accompanying Gurdas and Lata in the song is Udit Narayan, whose voice is used for Shahrukh. Udit sings a few lines in the song; however, I feel this time the song goes to Gurdas. Throughout the song, I was thinking that they would include another female singer , my favorite, Alka Yagnik, in the song for Preity; however it didn't happen. Preity never gets to sing in the song, and I think she should have had a bit to sing. It would have been so nice to hear Lata and Alka sing together!! Hum To Bhai Jaise Hain is a solo song rendered by Lata Mangeskar. It's basically based on the ideas of a girl staying the same in her qualities/flaws, even after marriage. This song is energetic, and sounds good to the ears. Lata manages to sound as zestful and energetic as possible, and the song flows quite well. The music is quite good; very traditional-like. This song is developed at the beginning of the film, which introduces Preity Zinta's role in the film. Aaya Tere Dar Par is a qawali type of pre-marriage song. It is sung by Ahmed & Mohd Hussain, again two singers whom i'm not familiar with. However, they both do an exceptional job of their vocals. The music is quite typical, so basically there isn't anything unique or different about it. It is quite ordinary in my opinion. Next, we have the song, ''Main Yahaan Hoon, which is sung by Udit. The song is generally quite well composed, and Udit manages to sound quite convincing for Shahrukh. It's basically about Preity longing for Shahrukh, and Shakrukh telling Preity that he is always with her. Quite a fine song, with a fine tune. Yeh Hum Aa Gaye is rendered by Udit and Lata. It is basically the song that is sung and played during the movie when Shahrukh and Preity meet in the courtroom after so many years. The song is rendered quite effectively by Udit and Lata, and the song as a smooth flow to it. It is a much needed song in the album, and adds to it's popularity. Tum Paas Aa Rahe Ho is a romantic duet by Jagjit Singh and Lata. Jagjit sounds very soothing, as he always does in these types of songs. Lata accompanies him, and she also adds some versitality to the song. They both make a good pair when singing such songs, and it sends a lovely wave to the ears. The last song in the album, Kyon Hawa, is rendered again by Sonu and Lata. The song is very similar to Do Pal; however, it doesn't sound as emotional or depressing. Sonu again does a wonderful job queing up the song, and Lata just lends some support to the song to make it run smoothly; however, again Sonu steals the song away from Lata. The music fits well in the song, allowing the song to compile. Altogether, the songs of Veer Zaara hit the notes perfectly. Even though Lata's use is cliched, the album still tops the charts successfully. There are 11 tracks to this album; however, 2 tracks are not included in the movie. Happy music listening!!
