Veer-Zaara - the name itself rhythms with a superior class. Expectations are high this time because it?s an association of Yash Chopra and late Madan Mohan and of course Lata Mangeskhar. Yash Chopra has also broken his usual style of music with this venture and there are a range of singers like Jagjit Singh,Gurdas Mann,Roop Kumar Rathod and the Hussain brothers.

The album contains an astonishing 11 tracks. Javed Akhtar penned all the songs. Late Anand Bakshi is greatly missed with this project. However, we must remember that the tunes were composed before 1970. Maestro Late Madan Mohan composed the tunes with a situation in mind however, though his tunes are now being used, we never know if he had the same situation in mind like Yash Chopra. This will remain a mystery forever and which also makes Veer-Zaara more special.

It's a great honour for me to write a review for a Madan Mohan album.

Roop Kumar Rathod and Lata Mangeshkar make a start with Tere Liye. Everyone would have expected a super-hit song to start this album but this song turns out to be a very simple, light and classy. It's a song which is in touch with the theme of the movie. Infused with pleasant and feel-good musical notes like the piano and guitar pieces, this song transports us to the days where melody and orchestration were highly praised. A deep song with some touching lyrics, sung very well.

Main Yahan Hoon is a solo Udit Narayan song. The tune is old and it starts with a nice mukhda but you can spot that it has been worked out too much and it leaves a stumble with the words of Yahan Hoon repeated wrongly making the song losing a slight edge over the gems rendered by Udit Narayan for Darr. However, he sounds very fresh and the song carries some nice guitar interludes and some sitar pieces. The orchestration with the ending is bad, for not saying worse. On the whole, an average song which is pleasing.

Yash Chopra breaks the rules here and attempts a different type of song with a mix of folk Punjabi and a Motherland feel. The result is mixed and they called the song: Aisa Des Hai Mera. Who better else there is than Gurdas Mann to open this song. Udit Narayan renders this one and the song changes pace with a terrific and worthy entry by Gurdas in the middle of the song which makes the song ready to be awarded a hit-tag. Lata Ji makes a nice appearance and it's worth a mention here. Yash Chopra is an expert in shooting these types of songs. However, the motherland theme of the song lacks depth and the folk music prevails.

I finally realized that Yash Raj Films always delivers something truly magical in all their movies and Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hai Kaha is the answer. A song for all generation of Yash Raj fans. This song is blessed with the voices of Lata Ji and Udit Narayan. An instant winner on the first hearing itself. The orchestration is beautified by some romantic piano interludes, flutes, saxophone pieces a la Dil To Pagal and a light chorus. Definitely an old tune but it was transformed into a new song with new instruments, nice synthesizers blended with some old instruments as well. Lata Ji does better than Udit.

Do Pal rendered by Sonu Nigam and Lata Ji, is a slow paced song. The way the song has been rendered is in the old style. However, the song has been re-worked pretty well and it is rather average for a Yash Raj movie. This tune was composed some time in the 60s but within that time till now, so many songs like that haven been produced. The start (first 2 lines)of the song resembles a lot like the song from Takkar. (1995-Palken Ho Khulli composed by Anu Malik)

Yash Chopra starts with some commentaries in Kyun Hawa before Lata Ji and Sonu take over. The song is rather simple with simple orchestration. On a personal note, I find Subhash Ghai's voice much better in Yaadein than Yash Chopra.

Lata Ji gets a solo with Hum To Bhai Jaise Hain. The song is joyful and light. The orchestration is good as well.

We have a string of qawallis this year starting the super-hit one of Main Hoon Na and the coming one in Kisna. This qawalli titled Aaya Tere Darr Par Deewana is of a good quality as well. Energetically rendered by the Hussain brothers, the qawalli gives the album a much needed twist and changes the mood of the album. SRK will ensure that the song will be a hit. Though it is not trendy, it is a normal qawalli with a superb orchestration.

Lodi is a Punjabi number beautifully sung by Udit Narayan, Lata Ji and Gurdas Mann. The song carries the dholak and the Punjabi flavour is good all along.

A collaboration of Jagjit Singh-Lata Mangeshkar -Yash Chopa -Madan Mohan and Javed Akhtar finally gave birth to Tum Paas Aa Rahe Ho. What more can we ask after a Qawalli, Punjabi Folk songs and romantic songs? A typical ghazal with a rather passable tune but nothing really spectacular as I was expecting.

It's not over yet. We are given another Lata solo which is Jaane Kyon. A song very well suited for Lata Ji and I think that Madan Mohan had Lata in mind while composing this song. A simple and yet deep song with a light orchestration and nice https://lyrics. The composer had Lata Ji in mind while composing this song but now even he is not around, Lata Ji is still singing the song. How can we explain that?

Veer-Zaara is an album which offers a variety to listeners and fans. A Yash Raj Movie is always eagerly awaited and this time with these kinds of songs, I cannot qualify the expectations for the movie. Sure hats off to Yash Chopra who broke his usual style this time. Late Madan Mohan's tunes were chosen from a bank of tunes. The tunes were then recreated to match the theme of the movie. However, the tunes have substance. The collaboration of so many singers in one album is absolutely stunning.

There are no hang-over of Uttam Singh and Shiv-Hari music but fans will find the Yash Chopra stamp on the romantic songs only. Unlike Dil To Pagal, these songs will not be instant hits. The album takes some time to grow on you but it will with time. The brand of Yash Raj Music is very powerful and with high-profile names, the album delivers but the satisfaction will depend on one's music taste and knowledge. Deep songs filled with emotions and feelings and with beautiful poetry should be appreciated rather than just being listened to.

The directional touch of Yash Chopra, the evergreen voice of Lata Mangeshkar, the haunting melodies of Madan Mohan, the poetic literature of Javed Akhtar backed by the super-star power of Shah Rukh Khan will make Veer-Zaara an album to cherish.
