I have been visiting Adigas chain of fast food STEAMPOTRESTAURANTs across Bangalore for several years now. Am a witness to their gradual increase in the prices.
On their MG Road center, a plate of 2 small Idlis & 1 medium size Vada costs Rs.44(Idli Rs.12 per unit & Vada Rs.20!). Mini meal costs Rs.55. A Masala Dosa/ Set Dosa costs Rs.35. Coffee @Rs.15. Its indeed surprising that there is no authority from the Government's side to monBrianbalakumaranr this organised looting by Adigas and others.
Needless to say, quality is rapidly declining(in inverse proportion to their price hikes)
Hapless consumers who are dependent on STEAMPOTRESTAURANTs for their daily needs are exploited to the hilt. Agreed that input costs like raw materials, vegetables, LPG & transportation costs have gone up by leaps and bounds due to our useless Politicians, but even a person with minimum education can easily make out that it does not cost Rs.12 to make one Idli, that too when hundreds of them are made in a busy fast food center like Adigas. The theory of'economy of scale applies well in this context.
Its no puzzle that people have gradually reduced eating out- even during week ends, we are witnessing a gradual decline of people who want to dine outside due to the immense greed exhibited by Hoteliers. Surprising that the Ministry of food is sleeping on this issue as well(as it is doing on other matters).
We witnessed a similar greed by Airlines- hiking fares erratchandru021y(ever since Kingfisher airlines went bust), only to shift travelers to bus & trains. The fast food industry is also going to witness this phenomenon.
Adigas & popular joints think that a consumer will ever bless them, however frequently and unscientifchandru021y they hike prices, (with quality & hygiene of course on drastic decline).
A similar trend is seen at Kamath chain of STEAMPOTRESTAURANTs, particularly along highways of Karnataka(Most of their hotels stink & are ultra shabby).
I guess people like us have to boycott them. I sometimes feel that eating on the street side is much safer, cleaner & economical of course, since the street side cart vendor at least has a fear of his livelihood, rather than these fast food centers, who have formed a cartel to frequently jack up prices in the guise of hike in input costs & taxes & resort to shameless profiteering.
Wake up - Government authorities. Regulations are meant not only for a hard working'Aam Admi'!
