My mom had an argument with our mechanic, Munna bhai. One of the boys who works for him received a cut, and was bleeding. For Munna bhai this is a daily routine. A cut here , a bruise there so what does he do. He takes out some grease and put it over the wound. Of all the time in the world, He took out some grease from a can , applies it over the boys wound. My mom is a nurse, and you can judge her reaction.
Mom : ''how can you do this, it is so unsafe, dont you have any sense, that will become septic, blah blah blah''.
Munna bhai : ''Didi, this has magical powers , you see for yourself in two days, he will be alright, This is not the first time he is getting cut''
Mom : '' But it is not safe''
Munna bhai: '' I am telling you didi, you see for yourself after two days.''
After two days that boy came over, to show his wound to didi err.. my mom. Practically there was a 70 % recovery in 50 % time.
The dictionary says ....
Vaseline: A yellowish translucent substance, almost odorless and tasteless, obtained as a residue in the purification of crude petroleum, and consisting essentially of a mixture of several of the higher members of the paraffin series.
Coming to general medical GK (jeez, do I have to explain that General Knowledge is GK for short). when you receive a cut on the skin, the first natural skin tissue instinct genetically engineered and a marvel of our creator's many mysterious ways, is to dry, which has its own normal process. The skin tissue dries, then wears off, and then your body tissue replaces the lost skin with new layer . Makes sense ?!!
This information can better be explained by our MS medical Panel.
For this requirement, the wound has to be exposed totally. Covering it in band aid or cotton stuffed plaster will only slow down the process. Leaving the wound open is inviting infection. so you have this petroleum by-product , which does two roles for your wounded part of skin tissue. It seals off the area from any infections, speed ens the skin rejuvenating process.
The Man who patented this brand, Robert Chesebrough, looking for something new to discover and sell, heard about the slimy slippery waste produced in Rockefellers oil field machines. The grease would jam the oil drill, but had miraculous healing powers. So he took a barrel full of it home , and after conducting some experiments he managed to extract the colorless jelly , which was patented in 1859 as Vaseline. Before he even patented it, he inflicted cuts on his own body and applied this jelly stuff, which gave him enough assurance that it healed faster.
