Cast : Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portma

Saw this movie pretty late. And I have a good mind to kill the person who brought out that proverb “better late than never”. This is one movie that should have been in the “never” category.

Another story by the Wachoswki brothers who have a penchant for making a thread bare story line into an extravagant movie with thrilling scenes and thought provoking dialogues. They missed on all their talents with this dud.

Now ill tell you a synopsis of the movie. Its about a guy who stands up against the government for everything that they did wrong. Standing up against a government who uses force to control the population. Standing up against a govt who uses the masses for the personal/financial/power gain of a few.

Kind of like the Count of Monte Cristo (on a micro level) on whom our hero is fixated upon and sees him as a guiding light. But that’s where the similarity ends. This is one mean fellow who uses all dumb tactics and strategies to get his point across. There is a sequence where he puts his lover through a torture treatment just so that she can understand his point of view and he can remove the fear that she has to overcome to stand up for what is right. This sounds pretty much like what happens in terrorist camps where they use extreme measures to change your outlook. Don’t know…didn’t seem to be the path a real hero would take.

Ok the story line is pretty simple but then trying to follow the theme was more stressing than your average exam or your daily office grind. So many twists, So many turns, So few words to “gaalify” the brothers.

The plot is filled with holes. I mean ok this guy is a hero and stuff but how does he manage to enter high profile peoples houses and other secured areas without any problem. All this when he wears a funny mask and has no other means of disguise. What did the security people do when they saw him. “hi there…no face huh?Ok you are secured to enter” Puleeeeezzzeeee…..the brothers took the easy way out on many an occasion for this movie.

Plus the characterization of the hero is pretty weird.

Now lets get to action part. You must have seen some good clippings during the promos. Well that’s all there is people. Don’t expect anything more from the movie. I went for a good decent mindless action flick. I got the words right though. The movie was mindless and there was no action. And my money was flicked.

V for Verdict : Give it a miss. But if you are a diehard fan of such kind of stuff then take a VCD/DVD and watch it at home.

Highlight of the movie : When the hero meets Natalie he gives a lengthy self intro using only “v” words. That must have taken some research into the dictionary.

That’s all for now
