This is probably my last review in the Magic series. I have kept this fan for the last because it is the newest of all. There isn’t anything special with it except its age. As I have mentioned in my Astra review Usha fans come in wide variety of ranges with royal, elegant series like Dynasty, Majestic, and Windsor etc. I really like the dynasty range for its elegant, royal design with those handing fancy lamps. These fans are really elegant in design some with Golden flanges, under lights and cool colors. Many of these fans have four blades with eye-catching decorations. Astra series is simple yet attractive kind. Most important is the performance and airflow. These models are listed by there sweeping areas. All fans are with three blades and have no additional unnecessary decorations and attachments. It’s a beauty in simplicity. Rest is all redundant and boring.
To discuss few features and specifications I’ll categorize in to these points viz. color, design, Air Flow system, and Peak Speed. The fan comes in 4 different I suppose. Ours one was white in color. The panting is pretty descent and they have mentioned in a small booklet that comes with it that it is rust resistant and conditioned for better airflow. I don’t know how much true that is.
The blades are very thin and slightly non-aerodynamic necessary for generating airflow. And consequently necessary to sale the fan. I don’t know the exact peak RPM speed but it’s pretty high. You can’t stand the peak speed. Two reasons for that, one is the flow and other is sound it makes. The noisy sound at peak speed is really frightening. The wobbling also increases with speed. The shaft begins to rotate around a newly created axis. Similar to Astra this is a double ball bearing type used for rotation of blades with respect to rotor. Now this in a way increases the life of fan. One of the major reasons for fans getting damages or going out of order is rusting off or wearing off of ball bearings due to friction and lack of grease, which reduces the friction and smoothens the motion. So having additional set of bearings would only increase the overall life. Periodic over oiling give no trouble at all unless it is some other factor damaging motor like leaking of water in to the motor or burning due to overloading.
The fan comes with a 7 years guarantee. Of course the guarantee is limited one and company doesn’t replace the parts. It has guarantee for the motor and against the manufacturing defects. The regulator is a box type regulator. There are four speed levels to select from. As I mentioned in my previous review we can fix any type of regulator the fans but it should really make a sense. I personally don’t prefer box type 3 level regulators for modern day fans with high peak speed. So one thing to look out for is a regulator. The type of regulator I mentioned comes for about 100 Rs.
They have designed these models with Computers measuring airflow, resistance etc. with the help of simulations. In order to generate a good flow the blades need to bent in an angle so as to maximize the flow and that to in all directions. More bending wouldn’t be good either since then air resistance will come in to play increasing the load on the motor.
Usha comes with a very wide range of fans. Except Khaitan no other company comes close to it. From Table fans to Ceiling fans and great exhaust fans there is no limit to it.
