Still underrated actress. Review on Urmila Matondkar

Urmila remains one of my favorite actress of all times, she has always had this innocent look on her face, it started with film satya where I started liking her and she started wearing appropriate clothes. Born on feburary 4 1974 in mumbai urmila started her acting career as a child in early 80's film called kalyug and masoom she won hearts of lot of people from the film masoom.

Urmila's doesn't have a filmi background, her father was lecturer, and she hung around after that in bollywood did small roles in films like sur sangam, dacait, bade ghar ki beti, and even did t.v serial called zindagi . Her first big role was in the film narasimha directed by n chandra the director of teezaab, the film had sunny deol and dimple kapadia and she plays om puri's daughter in the film her role was forgetable, but it was a good movie though.

Her second role was in the film chamatkar along with shahrukh khan and nasuerdin shah and shreeman aashique along with rishi kapoor who was way older then her in that film, but no matter what films she did while her runners up of that time manisha koirala and madhuri dixit reached the peak of their popularity with block buster after blockbuster success seemed to ignore her.

Her friendship with ramgopal varma began with the film drohi, starring nagarjuna and danny, although the movie flopped her friendship with varma was going somewhere in the next years. along the way she still took flop films like tejasvini, bedardi, kanoon etc. Then finally her time came with rangeela, which was one of the biggest hit in the year 1995 in which she plays a star struck dancer, along with aamir khan and jackie shroff. This is considered one of the best works by ramgopal varma also, the film had great dancing by urmila in the song ho ja rangeela which topped the chart around that time.

Urmila continue to do good work with hit films like hindustani and judai. I loved her role in the film daud where she plays bhavani and I thought daud was a well made film a good comedy. Her sensational dance number in the film china gate, the song chamma chamma was very popular in 1998. Then again it was ramgopal varma who offered her SATYA in which she plays vidya and give one of her best performances in this film. She was recognized as a good actress from this role. Her next good role was in the film kaun the film is mainly focused on 3 or 4 characters and is worth a watch.

Then along the way she had some more flops janam samjha karo, hum tum pe marte hai, mast, dillagi didn't work out for her. Khoobsurat was a another semi hit film of urmila which starred sanjay dutt also the film had great music and is a clean family film. Her role in jungle and her villain performance also won her good reviews. I liked her role in the film deewane also this is the film that a double of ajay devgan and great music by sanjeev darshan which remains one of my favorite cd's.

Urmila had a another hit in her pocket in 2002 film deewangee, starring ajay devgan and akshaye khanna, ajay devgan gives a mindblowing performance, and urmila suits her role also. I thought the year 2003 was the urmila year she had good performances and hits in her pocket staring with pinjar which was an average film at the box office, but urmila gives a fine performance, then her role in the film bhoot was which got her the critics award for best actress.

Her performance in the film can be described as her best performance so far, which is a very underrated performance, she overshadows saif in the film like this. IN 2005 she is still doing well with films like maine gandhi ko nahin mara, naina were other good performances and films, her recent film banaras didn't do that well but she has more movies coming up. Film called chamki along with jimmy shergill, london dreams with ajay devgan and salman, samna with akshay kumar, vasundhra, bas ek pal, sholay, autograph.

Urmila does less movies, but takes up a good role that suits her not just any other roles and that's how she comes up with a good performance. I think urmila is the best looking actress in bollywood
