After nearly 11 years of driving overseas, in a disciplined traffic, I bought a Fiat Uno, Petrol, new Euro-III Version, driven by passion on European Brands, which I had enjoyed overseas.
Today, after twelve months of my experience in a most indisciplined and congested traffic environment, I am the proud owner of a car that is highly comfortable, terribly flexible like a bicycle, and very sturdy enough to absorb all damages caused by the ruthless auto-rikshaws, tricycles, and heavily loaded cyclists in my city.
The fuel efficiency is commendable. Gives 18km p.l., on highway with AC on, single driven, 15 if fully loaded and AC on. Average 13 within city and on highway combination. The AC is very fast and powerful. Brakes are very responsive. In its price segment, in India, I feel there is no other brand to match its reliability and comfort. Others are just chicks of only beauty and of no performance before the heavy Fiat Uno.
The only snag, not a very crucial one, is its out-dated appearance. No doubt, it is the best choice in my career.
One vital point: I am 60 and still very dynamic at the wheels of FIAT, which I find equivalent to Peugeot 505 which I have driven abroad... in its stability, turning radius, smoothness and fluid steering (mechanical not power driven).
I am very proud to have chosen this vehicle.
Unfortunately this car is not backed by aggressive marketing campaign, especially in Tamil Nadu. The Service Backing of TVS in the South is commendable which no other brand enjoys... highly equipped Service Station of TVS makes this brand more homely.
At the time of re-editing this topic today, FIAT has launched another model ''PALIO'', which may outdate Uno. Read my review on PALIO elsewhere here.
