I did my graduation in German from Department of Germanic and Romance Studies (Faculty of arts) and while being there for 3 years I realised the need to write this article.Delhi university is the palce to be..But if this is how Faculty of Arts is going to remain, , then I am worried ...
Located in North campus, ‘Faculty of Arts’ offers
many courses under its various departments. One can pursue under-graduate course
in foreign languages or do Masters in any of the courses offered under different
departments. East meets west at the faculty as students not only from all over India but
also from other parts of the World come to study here.
One who wishes
to enter Faculty of Arts need to worry about their security. Anybody at any
given time can enter the faculty .It does not matter whether you are a part of
this faculty or not because there is nobody to look at your identity proof.
Here you can enjoy yourself with a cup of coffee or just lie down under the sun
without being bothered.
This has
become a major concern among the girl students. “Sometimes I get worried when I
see lots of people just roaming into faculty’s corridors without any purpose.
There should be a guard to keep a check”, said one student of department of
Germanic and Romance studies who do not wish to be named.
The problem
does not end here. Arts faculty is a hot place for beggars & vendors too.
One can always witness small children begging for toffees or a cup of tea creating
chaos for others. Vendors also creates nuisance by constant requests to people
to buy their ‘chana jor garam’ or ‘candy
floss’.
It is
high time that authorities do something to maintain faculty’s reputation. It will
not be long when quality education at arts faculty will be turned down because
of its poor security & uninvited members.
