Sub: Shifting residence from Doddanakundi to Bellandur(Within Bangalore 7KMs)
I usually obsess about quality, demanding 100% bubble-wrapped packing, and stick to Allied Lemuir. However, they were overbooked and my need urgent so tried justdial and picked Universal Packers and Movers since they were the most responsive.
Their excellent sales person Mr. Praveen(+918050031133), whom I met on 05th June 2016 was confident and had me convinced that my needs would be easily met and exceeded. As a result, I agree to a hefty 22k invoice when competitors quoted 7K max. Peanuts=monkeys, right?! As promised his team of 9 boys landed at my place at 7am the next day.
Scenes unfolding:
Praveen was all over the place instructing his half asleep boys about the expectation
They didn?t have cutters, scissors and newspapers for packing. I lent it all to save time. They were miserly with the packaging and even fragile items got one flimsy wrap with no fillers
The transportation vehicle was a little bigger than the old matador vans. His justification - we will do multiple trips with this one
As Praveen tried to cover their slack, he started packing, leaving me to supervise the lazy chaps who were getting comfortable on my chairs and sofas and trying to be overly familiar.
By around 10am, only 10% of work was done and one guy was reeking of alcohol? later I realized he had raided my bar and gulped a quarter and kept the empty bottle back. Not to mention the paan stains in the kitchen sink
Work suddenly stops at 11.30am?packing material finished sir?
His people return an hour later on their bike with bits of used bubble wrap which obviously would not be enough anyway
Praveen leaves before lunch and is replaced with a more efficient Sonu(+918050031144). Instead of supervising, he got down to packing really well? but cut up my carpet in the process? while his boys slunk in corners awaiting instructions.
When there was enough for that tiny truck, one load left. At the destination, the truck gets parked on an inclined and all the boxes come sliding and crash into each other and my expensive paintings. As one of the boys ran to open the door, the senior yelled and stopped him before everything came crashing out.
So they take a lunch break? all together? before unloading. I saw the abandoned consignment and stood guard for 45 mins till they returned
Inside the new apt, the?fragile? boxes were first put UPSIDE DOWN before being flipped back. Rice bags can survive not my precious curios so I took over the unloading job
One guy entered the washroom attached to the main bedroom and took a dump, quickly followed by another and a third waiting in line before I noticed and raised a stink on this side of the door
After one tiny consignment, we got back to the loading spot at 4:30 PM to that nothing had progressed.
The supervisor was not tracking the boxes or numbering them. Zero process. So I stepped in there as well.
I immediately asked Sonu to STOP and take whatever money was required to get them out of my house
Praveen calls and says 14k. I pay and ask them to leave. Only Sonu seemed ashamed and clearly disappointed with his team. The boys - average age 22 yrs - were fooling around and getting louder without understanding the seriousness of what the feedback would do to their start up business Universal packers are NOT equipped to handle any packaging or moving that demands quality or care. They are stingy with material and ill equipped overall. They were clueless about wrapping bigger items including the refrigerator, washing machine or TV. The management team might be sincere but the delivery team is completely unprofessional and uncouth. I lost money, personal items and a whole day. I called in a favour and got Lead Packers to come the next day on short notice and finish the shift. They repacked and seamlessly shifted within the time constraints.
I fell for the sales pitch and didn?t research in my haste. You now have no excuse.
