I visited England in Mid may in 2000. I and my brother we stayed at this small English village called Sonning, which is located in Berkshire. The closet city/town was called Reading. Reading is a beautiful setting, it is much cleaners and friendlier than London, there are many desis around. Berkshire has all these new software company buildings and as a result there are many desi programmers in the place.
Reading station is nice and convenient and you take the train to Paddington station and from there you carry on to whatever part of London you wish to go to.
If you do visit England I recommend you don't spend too much in London, I'd say it's basically like any other big city in the world and couple of days of intensive sightseeing should cover up your trip.
I would definitely recommend the roofless tour busses, they are the best way to see the city as they take you ALL over the city and you can hop off any stop you wish and then take the bus from that very stop again because there's a new bus every 15 mins.
Viist the Wax museum and the planetarium, a big scerte Indians don't know that a 15 min. walk down from the wax museum and you enter St. Johns woods, the suburbs where the cricket grounf Lords is located. I recoomend a trip to Lords, they have a guided tour of the gorund for 12 pounds and for ever cricket loving person Lords is heaven, it's a pilgrimage to the holy grounds where the highest sporting achievemnt of India took place in 1983 and yes ALL the world cups are stored in the museum along with other wonderful memorabilia.
