I went to United Coffee House on 17th January with my sister and her family.
CP has become the Piccadilly of India and the crowd just keeps on increasing. The situation is worsening after the Metro has taken base and the central park. Well I mean that there are more hungry people than the restaurants can really cope. We reached at about 3:00 PM and still the lunch rush was at peak. I have frequented this place since last many years and mostly found the food to be of good quality though a bit steeply priced. But over the years I have found that the overall quality has been deteriorating. First of if you are asked to wait outside, do not count on the Gurkha to handle the priorities and people who arrive may just bully their way into the restaurant with impunity and little regards to those standing in waiting. Service is better if you are lucky to get a seat in the main hall on the ground floor. The curse starts with a seat on the first floor. The seats are tough and uncomfortable. The table are kept so close to each other and with all those pillars you can easily understand what claustrophobia is.
Well once in the seats you can expect to wait for at least 30 minutes before your order is picked. And DO NOT expect nyone to wait upon you. The staff is rude, strained and stressed. I ordered a Fanta to be served before meals to my daughter and it was served in 55 minutes and yet there was no sign of food. When I asked the supervisor he agreed that since Fanta is not cooked at the restaurant it mustn't take more than 7 minutes to have it served.When I told him 55 minutes of wait, he became confrontational and blamed the waiter who took the order, and he said that he did not know, when I reminded him that being a supervisor he is supposed to know, he was very upset. Well after many requests and cajoling finally the food bagan to arrive.
The quality was awful. It seems they liberally used the MDH packets in all gravy items. The Rotis and Nans were not supplied in time and we literally pounced on veggies since we were so hungry. When Rotis and Nans were suplied hey were less in quantity and some vegetabes were wrongly supplied while some just never arrived. Mineral water was ordered but not provided and arrived by the time we had finished half of the meals. It was appalling to see that while people waited on waiters, people waited for someone to take order for neatly an hour, there was a crowd of people in waiting outside the restaurant.
For ambiance I will give it 2/5 (Upstairs), For service 1/5, staff courtesy 0.5 / 5, Food quality 1.5 / 5, Prices 1/5 and overall experience 1/5
If possible avoid going to United Coffee House.Its isnt what it used to be.
