Few days back while chatting on the net I came across a person. He was in his late 30's and said although he loves his wife very much and takes care of her, yet whenever he gets a chance he maintains physical relations with other women as well. On asking that what would he do, if he finds out that his wife is also cheating on him. He said, he'll probably kill her. Isn't that double standards?

In our society, it's considered fine if males enjoy sex but it is pressumed that females dont have any sexual desire at all and if they have it then they are sluts.

Women enjoy sex as much as men do but what they dont enjoy is sex with a man who is insensitive to their needs. And this is the theme of this movie.

The story revolves around Connie, Edward and their 9-yr-old son Charlie. On a windy day she knocks down a book dealer Paul and skins her knees. She goes to Paul's apartment to apply some medicines on her wounds but Paul seduces her and gets her into an extra-marital relation. Connie gives in to spice up her lifeless married life. But later a feeling of guilt haunts her and she finds it tough to keep her secrets within herself. Edward too starts suspecting her and their warm, safe world falls apart when a spy appointed by Edward gets him the pictures of Connie & Paul.

The climax of the movie is very violent indeed and the movie takes an altogther different turn in the end. The movie could have been better, if they could work out the climax in a better way.

There is lots of skin show in the movie yet not at any moment it looks sleazy. The director has included them delibrately. And since lust is the driving force of the characters there are sex scenes not only in the bedroom, but in a movie theatre and a coffee shop as well.

In ''Unfaithful,'' Connie and Ed's son, Charlie, is always looming in the background of the story. He is there waiting to be picked up by his late mother at school. (She was in bed with Paul.) He is there when his mom is crying, to give her emotional support. ''Don't be sad, mom. Dad will be home tomorrow.''

At the beginning of the movie, Charlie is shown with his back on the floor, playing under the kitchen table with a hand-held video games. A few feet away from him is the pet dog eating out of a bowl. The camera purposefully looks at Charlie, then the dog, and then back at Charlie. It symbolises that the position of Charlie was nothing more than a pet dog in their house. None of the parents had time for him.

The best acting performance has been by Connie. You dont hate her when she gives in to the temptation rather you sympathise with her.

This movie is good in the regard that it looks at extra marital affair from a different perspective. Usually we see men cheating on wives. But this one tries to tell us that wives are humans too, and thus, they can also make mistakes.
