Story:

So you wanted to be a hotshot lawyer or rather you were forced to believe that you wanted to be a hotshot lawyer by your high profile mum since the age of 12. You forgot your childhood, lost your innocence, your sleep and your weekends over trying to reach there. You clock in an average of 16 hours a day for seven years and then you make a mistake. What happens? This is how The Undomestic Goddess begins and takes you for a ride into the countryside. Samantha is the wanna be hotshot lawyer who sudenly finds herself without a job. She lands a job as a housekeeper and guess what? She has never entered a kitchen throughout her life. Through a series of events, you see the change in Samantha. You see her learn to enjoy the little things in life. The girl who was always connected 24/7 suddenly found herself gizmo free. She also finds that she's attracted to the gardener who hates lawyers. How long will she be able to hide this fact from him? I will not get into too many details about the story. But rather I would like to add my thoughts to it. Many of us out there would probably relate to character of Samantha. We slog it out every day to reach the next step in the ladder. On the way we forget that once we reach the end of the ladder, who else is going to be there with us? Is our family or friends with us or have we abandoned them somewhere while scurrying to the top. They say it gets lonely at the top. But if in the process of reaching the top you are able to pull those with whom you want to share the moment with, then you're probably the most envied person. But how does one acheive that? This is something that is dependant on each individual. There is no followed receipe for that. The reason I have stated that the ending might confuse the reader is because we see Samntha taking some decisions which we may or may not agree with. We cannot take her decision as something which we can apply in our lives. As I said, Samantha the character takes the decisions based on what she thinks is right. Similarily we need to do the same. The book though touching a very delicate topic has been handled well and I must say does tickle your funny bone. You get the message what the author is trying to convey but you don't feel heavy at the end of it. But yes, it does get you thinking. A must read.
