There has been a hell lot of controversy regarding "Udta Punjab" and when such a thing happens, you can't help but feel that the film probably would not be worth the pre-release hype. Only that Udta Punjab is actually worth the hype. It is not a movie that you label as good or bad, it is just a very brave movie and it needs the audience to be brave enough as well to actually watch it till the end. Rarely I watch movies where I cringe in the seat during the first half and wish that I left the hall midway not because the movie is bad, but because I am not strong enough to watch the horror.
Yes, its dark .its very very dark and it was meant to be . It is replete with expletives and somewhere it needed to be that way. And it has Alia Bhatt who has delivered an absolutely unbelievable performance. So has Shahid but he has already set such a high benchmark with Haider that you expect nothing less of him . Do watch Udta Punjab . It will not entertain you, it might make you cringe but it shows the reality that we would otherwise choose not to see.
