This place was named after the king udham singh. It is second largest city in jammu region and fourth in the state of jammu and kashmir. National highway 1A passes through this district. It is located in shivalik range of himalayas. Major attractions in Udhampur city include Gole Market, Devika mandir, Ramnagar chowk, near devika mandir there is famous kulche wala known as mame da kulcha he sells the best kulcha in udhampur and he is well known in this city.
Places which you can visit from here are as follow Vaishno Devi, Shiv Khori Cave Temple, Krimchi Temples, mansar lake, patnitop, nathatop which is 11km away from patnitop. This city receives average snowfall in winters.The Northern Command Headquarters and hospital of the Indian Army is based in Udhampur.major language spoken here is dogri.
