Burman revolutionized male voice

Sachinedev burman is perhaps most respected composer of India.  . Schindler Burman hailed  from the royal family of Tripura. He has very successively used folk music but at the same time he also created many songs based on Indian classical music as well as songs based on Western music.Basuri was his favorite instrument.  His music was divine and never appeared stale.

At the beginning of his Carreer he was surprised to note that his servant is humming songs from "Ratan ", composed by fellow composer Naushad.  He immediately taught himself a lesson that popular music needs to be hummable . His speciality was that even though his music was hummable, at  times westernized yet it never lost it's divine touch. He was honored with two Filmfare awards, one National award and Sursingar award( for best use of Indian classical music). He was very active until his death in 1975. The trendsetter composer Rahuldev Burman is his son.

But perhaps the biggest noteworthy contribution of Burman to light Indian music is the voice of Kishorekumar. AS fellow compose Salil  Chodhary remarked on death of Rahildev Burman " Exceppt Sachindev Burman all of us failed to spot the potential of Kishore. We all dismissed him as clown"

Sachindev Burman nurtued and consistently used kishorekumar . In movies like paying guest the song Mana Janabne Poukara Nahi, the song, Hum Hai Rahi Payrke, the song "Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Hakkekat " etc were all fast paced songs  specially designed for kishorekumar and almost evry song sung by kishore under his baton is hit. No other composer including his son Rahuldev Burman could achieve this feat. All these songs as weell as the duets " Chod Do Aanchal, Aakhonme Kya Ji, Likha Hai Teri Aankhgo me. Are Yaar Meri Tum Bhi Ho Gajab are fast paced, trendy and yet divine!

With Aradhana he made a miracle. It is interseting to note that at the same time S.D burman composed  music for a film which had kishore in main lead. and Burman had given playback of Manna Dey to kishore for all songs, to wipe out the propoganda that kishore had to take playback of Rafi for difficult songs. Overnight Kishore was the lead singer of India taking the place of Rafi. Since Rafi was  the lead singer in fifties and sixties when Buirman  was questioned about the consistent patronage of Kishore he remarked that Kishore is my second serve. but it seeems that Burman was confident of Aradhana score and all moves like playback of "Manna dey " to Kishore were well planned. Sachindev burman stamp rather than Rahuldev burman stamp couild be clearly seen on all kishore songs in Aradhana.

But come Aradhana and then he started playing kishore. He ensured wit the team with poet "Neeraj " that kishore sings some raelly great songs. He fisrt made kishore sing " Phooloke rRngse " and made the world clear that here is Pahadi yet soft voice. He composeced the duet " Shokhiyome Ghola Jaye " specially with kishore's pahadi voice and it's special taan "he he " in mind. Like Madammohan- Latta -O.P. Nayyar -Asha . Naushad-Rafi, Sachindev burman -\Kishore is  made for each orther combination of composer singer. Though he used other singers like Rafi, Manna de, Talat the chart buster songs, which were all fast paced numbers were exclusively reserved for Kishore  even in Fifties. When kishore was recording " Jeevan Ke Safar Me Rahi " Burman stopped the recording in the middle and said " If u continue singing like this all our songs will be hit!"

of course he also used Lata spelendidly and when due to some diffrences lata was not singing with him he used asha brilliantly. He made excellent use of voice of Rafi and Hemanta as well. Though he use Talat, Mukesh rarely he created immortal melodies whenever he  used them. He used Geeta Dutt very nicely  and got her sing the song "Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Hasi Sitam ", . The pain and depth in Geeta's voice is so unique that Laaa would not have been able to give justice to this song.as much as Geeta.e gave. only one discordant note, here that had O. P. Nayyar and S.D burman given  more chance to Geeta, we would have got Geeta along with Lata/ Asha as lead singer.

He was himself a good singer. His voice had amazing range and depth.

Contrary to common impression Sharmili, Tere Mere Sapane are better musical scores than Guide. of course Paying Guest, Sharmili, Tere Mere Sapane, Guide, ArAdhana,  and Abhimaman are the  great scores produced by Burman. It is a purel y coomon public feeling that  songs which use " indian classical music and dances based on it is supreme which maks people to mark Guide as his best score. On the contray Shharmili, Tere Mere Sapane had songs which could demonstrate many moods  and feelings of human emotions. Also the score of Payasa was not greatly musical but truly the lyrics of Pyasa were greater than music!
