After writing about the 2o best of Kishore Kumar, how Could I not write about the other geniuses. So here I am with the 2nd in the series. Here I am paying a tribute to Mohammed Rafi. As with others selecting just 20 best of Rafi is a very tough job. Cause this talented singer has tons of hits against his name. And each listener would have his or her own to add to this performer.
Here are my top 20. Forget the order, just listen with your heart.
1) Yeh mehlo yeh takhto: Pyaasa. This song is one that I like a lot. The way it has been composed and the way it has been sung will forever be imprinted in my mind. The anguish of the poet has been so very well been captured by Rafi here.
2) Pukarta Chala hu main: I am not quite aware of the film here. But this is one extremely hummable song. Light Lilting song that has your heart soaring
3) Man tarpat haridarshan: Who can forget this magnificent song, set to Raag malkauns, said to be one of the toughest raagas. Hasn't Rafi done a fabulous job here?
4) Chaudhvi ka chand: The title song, has been indeed sung with elaan here.
5) Zindagi bhar nahi(barsat ki raat): What a song this one. And the rendering is so cool. Sheer poetry, music and singing here
6) Ehsan tera hoga: Junglee. This song has a version by Lata too. But in comparison to Rafi, she doesnt even reach anywhere near him. A truly great number
7) CErtain people I know have a mindset, that Rafi could sing only slow or classical songs. Obiviously they haven't heard him sing'Badan Pe sitare' This song had a tremendous momentum, as did other similar songs, most picturised on Shammi Kapoor, like aiyaiya suku suku and aaja aaja main hu pya tera.
8) Jawaniya ye mast: Tumsa nahin dekha This film had many good songs. But this song takes me on a different level alltogether.
9) Din Dhal Jaaye: guide . This is another fab song.
10) Kabhi Khud pe:hum dono The sheer poetry and the rendition has helped this song to find a place among the classics.
11)Another pacy single, sung by Rafi sahab is the one picturised on Joy Mukherjee. This is Lakhon hain nigaah me. and extremely hummable number
12) oho ho ho.khoya khoya chand, khula aasman.Another peppy song for sweet memories.
13) Is rang badalti:Rajkumar The beauty of most songs of yore lay in their https://lyrics. And I guess even the singers loved to sing it. You can absolutely make out the love poured into each song here.
14) Mere mehboob tujhe: This is another song rich in urdu, and given the best treatment by rafi sahab. The ups and downs have been done oh so beautifully. The rest of the songs well, I'll just mention them. Kindly add on to this list, either writing your own choices or adding on comments.
