Before you go through the entire review I would like to warn you that I will write it with an extreme bias towards 70's rock and would try my best to'exclude' the Led zeppelin's and the'Pink Floyds' and the'doors'. Not that I hate them but I don't want them to overshadow some of the lesser known pathbreaking and legendary works.

Here is how it goes -:

1. Mannfred Mann's Band - Blinded By The Light

The lyrics are gibberish apparently describing an acid/coke trip.

This song was written and first recorded by Bruce Springsteen. Manfred Mann's Earth Band did a very successful cover of it that went to Number 1 in the States. I am obsessed with the long and psychedelic guitar solo played in the song.

2. The Who - Teenage Wasteland/Baba o'riley

Keith moon playing the drums and pete townshend on the guitars. Excellent chemistry. The song starts with a peppy synth intro which then forms the main rythm of the song.

3. Fleetwod Mac - The Chain

The way this song builds up is awesome. Starts with a steady fingerpickin followed by a screeching yet melodious solo at the end.

4. CSNY - Helplessly Hoping

Only instrument played in the song is an acoustic guitar. The way these 4 hippies harmonize is not to be missed.

5. N(e)il Young - Keep On Rocking In the Free World

This song epitomises hard rock. Yelling, distortion and lotsa noise on the house.

6. David Bowie - Space Oddity

'Ground control to major tom'. . Thats how it starts. Very psychedelic.

7. Genesis - Mama

Progressive rock. Phill collins doing some amazing job on the vocals.Heavy pecussions.

8. Steve Miller band- Jet Airliner

A typical SMB song with a lot of harmony and distortion.

9. RUSH - The Trees

The song was apparently written about the British in Canada, the Oaks being the English and the Maples the oppressed Canadians. Check out alex lifesons solo and accompanying him on the drums the great neel peart.

10. YES - I ve seen all good people

yet another progressive song.

11. Marshall Tucker Band - Ride the highway

Southern rockers marshall tuckers band got its name from an unidentified key chain found in their apartment/studio. the mysterious key chain was later found to be of a blind piano player who used to reside in that place before.

12. Wishbone Ash - Warrior

Twin guitars.

13. Supertramp - Logical song

A better known song from this group is'breakfast in america'. This song has been taken from the same album. The lyrics are satirical.

14. Lou Reed - Perfect Day

I heard this song in a brit movie called'trainspotting'.The melancholy is overwhelming.

15. Eric Bourdan & The Animals - Spill the wine

Hillarious & psychedelic.

16. Tom Petty - Roll Another Joint

You know what I mean.

17. Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way

dont know much about him but a must checkout song. Another one from the same artiste is'Life's been good'.

18.Guess Who - No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature

Folk rock. Great stuff.

19.Iron Butterfly - In A Gadda Da Vida

Acid Rock. 17 mins long. The song was originally called'In a garden of eden'.

20.Buffallo SpringField - Stuck in the middle with you

Have you seen'The Reservoir Dogs'? . Another great song from the same band is'For what its worth'.

Now its time to comment on this list.
