I believe such things like art and words to be extremely subjective.everyone can have different interpretations of a work of art based on thier own personal experiences. this song or any other may bring out in you completely different emotions and that would be more often than not defined by YOUR past.
but to me I take it quite literally. first thing in the morning it just reminds me that I have to fend for myself. I have to lead myself first before I can take on the world. love .relationships.friends.they're all important very important.but its all blah if im not in control of ME.if I dont know ME.

if u listen carefully he contradicts himself in the same song at times.and thats how everybody is.we say one thing, mean another, percieve sumthin totally different and end up doing somthin else .oh and he'l gladly tell u whr he jus put in words cos it rhymed.!
