The Headbanger Cometh..

(Updated Feb 21, 2006 03:35 AM)

I was just 13 when I first heard'The number of the beast'  by Iron Maiden and back then it hit me like a fireball and I couldnt escape.I was completely engulfed in the fury and i'm still under its intoxicating influence.that day my metal journey began and after almost 12 years, I think, i'm not even half way through. When all of my friends used to dance to the tunes of Backstreet boys  and N Syncs, I had tried to gather all the headbanging stuff that a 13 year kid could with the limited pocket money that was available every month. Not to mention that I had become an absolute menace for my parents and sister. Even got a lot of thrashing for wasting time on such useless things.(useless.?) It only made my resolve stronger. There was no where else to go.i was a self proclaimed metal maniac.

This thread almost makes me go nostalgic.so I pick the 20 best metal songs till date that I have heard and keep going back to them time and again. Though its unfair to just pick twenty when the list could have been possibly much longer, but yet.lets start with the task at hand.I must point out though that there have been a lot of variations in the styles of the Metal in the last three decades and i'll try to accomodate most of them without sticking to any particular style.

For the sake of giving credit to all who are worthy of it, I have divided the first ten into'Old School' and the next ten into'Numetal'.

The best ones first.

>>>OLD SCHOOL.70s.80s.<<>>Numetal.post 90s<<<

1. Dream theater: Pull me under

Album:Image and words, 1992

I would'nt call it numetal as numetal to me is more of a slang meaning metal gone wrong!.This is out n out progressive metal and the best from the kings of Progressive metal genre.this is one song that makes me go in a state of oblivion.i forget where I am.what I am doing.such is the power of DT.damn damn good.

2. Children of Bodom: Bed Of Razors

Album:Hatebreeder, 1999

Children of Bodom is a finnish band who shot to fame in 97 with the release of their first album, Something Wild. Their sound was a mix of black metal, classic heavy and death metal vocals. It was a far cry from the usual numetal crap doing the rounds of the charts at that time. This song, Bed of razors is one of my most favourite bodom songs. It has a perfect blend of synth and bass with the crazy vocals. A must have.

3. Rammstein: Asche zu Asche

Album:Herzeleid, 1995

Rammstein is one of my current favorites and its really hard to choose one good song out of many.Their sound is a mix of industrial metal and'tanz' metal.(meaning dance metal).I like this over the ever popular'Du hast'.The best part.they sing in german!

4. Sepultura: Territory

Album:Chaos AD, 1992

This is again not your typical numetal but being post 90s, I decided to post it in here.

What an amazing song this is and equally what a band.almost all of their stuff is hard core metal.beware.you might not be popular anymore in your neighbourhood.

5. System of a down:Toxicity

Album:Toxicity, 2001

This is one of the most progressive bands of the numetal era.Their sounds are equally compelling as their https://lyrics. This song is just one of the many good ones they have churned out over the years. Closest contender was.Chopsuey.

6.Iron Maiden: Fear of the dark

Album:Fear of the dark, 1992

Iron maiden again makes an appearance in the countdown. This song is a creepy anthem which is one of the best maiden numbers post 90.

7. Slipknot: Duality

Album: Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses

Wicked stuff. not to everybody's liking though.

8. Ministry: Psalm 69

Album:Psalm 69: The Way To Succeed and To Suck Eggs

Ministry is one of the best examples of industrial metal.and this song is another anthem of the metalbangers.

9. Korn: Blind

Album:Blind, 1994

This 1994 release is one of their best creations and closest to come to this is possibly, freak on a leash.

10.Pantera: Cowboys from hell

Album:Cowboys from hell, 1990

There was a time when Pantera was applauded for being one of the best upcoming thrash metal bands, but unfortunately, the band broke up and the fans worldwide were deprived of the quality stuff they used to churn out.

Huff puff.pant pant.so the list is finally over. but its far from conclusive.i have a 100 more to compete for the list but it was really becoming a daunting task to choose the best out of so many great numbers.Anyways these are just some of my favorites. We all have varied tastes. Do post yours as well.

Caayotee out.
