People always take pride in celebrities that hail from their locality, I am no exception, I feel wonderful that the great lyricist Shakeel Badayuni is from my Home District Badayun(UP). He came to Mumbai to work as lyricist and was given an opportunity by Naushad Saheb, after that there was no turning back.
He has mostly written romantic songs that were huge hits in the Golden Era of Bollywood. Sadly no one writes such lyrics nowadays. Very few songs of present times are worth remembering.
He has extensively worked with Composers like Naushad, Ravi and Hemant Kumar to give innumerable hits. His noted films are Dard, Baiju Bawra, Mother India, Chaudhvin ka Chaand, Mere Mehboob, Aan, Leader, Ganga Jamuna and not to forget the great Epic Mughal-E-Azam.
Most of my favourite songs I have chosen for this revu has the Shakeel/Naushad/Rafi/Dilip combo. The format is title of song/singer/Composer/movie name.

Who can forget this song sung by Tun Tun with so much emotions into it. To wait for someone is the tiresome chore.

There is both hope and despair, otherwise life would be boring.

Its beloved’s birthright tobe praised, the lover never tires singing her praises. It is picturised on two of my fav actors - Waheedaji, the epitome of beauty and grace, looks ethereal. Guru Dutt,an actor par excellence.

husn par dil zaroor aayega, isse bachne ki koi raah nahin
zindagi aaj nazar milte hi lut jayegi
I love this vibrant song, it has the power to uplift up my mood anytime. The richness of lyrics and the dance performance in addition to Ashaji’s voice makes this song worth watching.

ghor andhera mushkil raahe, kadam-kadam pe dhoke

True love doesn’t want to follow the norms of the society and even the threat of death never stops the lovers from meeting.
11 Insaaf ka mandir hain yeh/Mohammed Rafi, Chorus/Naushad/Amar
yeh soch le har baat ki Daata ko khabar hain
himmat hain toh aaja yeh bhalayi ki dagar hain
This song always inspires one to follow the right path even if there are too many hurdles. The Supreme Being is well aware of everything that happens in one’s life. It is my belief that He knows my endurance limit and will never test me beyond that.

nazdeek bahut hain manzil phir bhi hain gazab ki doori

Insomnia is one of the sure sign of being in love. How trying it can be tobe around each other but to wait for the right time to come together.

The presence of loved one in one’s life can be very fulfilling. This is one of my most fav song, I loved this song even when I barely knew the meaning of love.

Khuda iss mohabbat ko abaad rakhe
ki jisne umeedon ki duniya basa di
The near and dear ones of the bride and groom wishing the couple all the happiness that they deserve. This song was always sung at sangeet ceremonies, sadly don’t get to hear this song anymore.
