Thought Provoking, Heart Moving

Each one of us feels low at one time or the other. Most of the times its due to the relations or discord in relations. Not stressful but sometimes you can’t controlwhats happening around you or affecting you in a sad/bad way, more importantly with respect oneself and what not. The blame translates in the form of abuse of resources available.

At that time, one tends to blame others, God, Nature, Fate(Bad Luck hee Kharaab Hain)One of the most commonly used and easily avialable abuse during such situations is the abuse of words. Many tend to resort to whatever comes to mind like the saying in Mumbai, Mooh Mein aaya Bak Diya.  Thankfully there are/were some lyricists who translate the feelings during such situations into words that make you ponder over the helplessness of an individual on the tragedies he/she faces.

The tunes composed by the Music Directors and the Pathos filled voices rendered by the singers for such lyrics just make them classic. Thought Provoking, thanks to lyricists/poets and Heart Moving, thanks to the MDs and singers and hence the title. And like IllayaRaja’s Un Kuthama En Kuthuma(Neither your fault Nor my fault), the list is the result of MS which created this section.;-)

Njoy Tragedy in the form of songs than letting it arouse Pity or Fear.

1) Yaar Teri Bewafai Ka Humko Jara sa Gum Nahin Yahaan

Tere Se Haseen Tere Se Jawaan Kam Nahin

Tu Nahin Mila Koi Aur Mil Gaya

Gul Nahin Khila Par Dard Mil Gaya

After listening to Des Rangila from Fanaa and then this one from Love You Hameshaa, there is little doubt that Mahalaxmi has immense talent. Not to forget the lyrics that of a loser who is pretending to be alright in spite of losing her beloved.

2) Kya Huva Tera Wada, Woh Kasam Woh Iraada.

This comparatively fast paced Rafi number from Hum Kisise Kam Nahin is a RD gem even though Tariq looks Chaman as the loser. Love this desai style movie for Rishi Kapoor and the songs.

3) O Saathi Re, Tere Bina Na Bhi Kya Jeena

Tragedy well defined. Knowing that He won’t get memsaab and will have to lead the rest of Life either with Zohrabaai or alone, still the Amitabh keeps explaining how painful Life would be/has been without memsaab.

4) Dil Ke Jharoke Mein Tujhko Bhitakar Yaadon Ko Teri Main Dulhan banakar.

Shammi showing off his Piano skills on gorgeous Vyjayanthimala. But more than that the picturisation of this wonderful song with some of the best chorus bits and unusual Ups and downs by Rafi saab.

Meri Mohabbat Ko Thukra De Chaahe, Main Koi Tujhse Na Shikwaa Karunga.

Phoolon Mein rakhunga Tasveer Teri, Saari Umar Teri Pooja Karunga. . Too much Huh!.

5) Phir Wohi Shaam Wohi Gum, Wohi Tanhayee Hain.

The baadshah of intense romantic and tragedy songs. Talat Mahmood. Kya Kahe?

For more of Talat Mahmood’s. Do read mbfarookh’s 3-part series of reviews on Talat Mahamood.

6) Jab Dil Hee Tut Gaya, Hum Jeeke Kya Karenge,

Listen once and you will love it forever. It seems KL Saigal was famous for drinking alcohol before recording every song. This being a sad song, he insisted more than usual to get the best as he believed he could sing much better when he was drunk. But the director suggested to record it without the drink. After listening to his own classic without alcohol, Saigal uttered "wish I could have realised this truth way before". Just after an year this great singer who inspired the likes of Kishore Kumar and Rafi Saab passed away.

7) Kisi Baat Par Main Kisise Khafa Hoon, Main Zinda Hoon Par Zindagi Se Khafa Hoon

One of KK’s best tragic songs for Amitabh after Manzilen Apni Jagah Hain from Sharabi.

8) Unko Yeh Shikayat Hain Ke Hum Kuch Nahin Kehte

Its one of the heart touching songs by Lata Madan Mohan duo from Adalat.

Kehne Ko Bahut Kuch Tha Agar Kehne Pe Aate,

Kuch Aisi Hee Haalat Hain Ki Hum Kuch Nahin Kehte.

9) Aye Mere Dil Kahin Aur Chal Gum Ki Duniya Se Dil Bhar Gaya Dhoond Le Ab Koi Ghar Naya

’Golden Voice of India’ Talat Mehmood again for Dilip Kumar in Daag.

10Sach Mere Yaar Hain, Bus Wohi Pyaar Hain, Jiske Badle Mein Koi Tho Pyaar De Baaki Sab Bekaar Hain.

SPB’s dream movie singing alongside KK. What movie & music & song? Mashaa Allah!

11) Chingari Koi Bhadke Tho Saawan Usey Bhujaaye, Saawan Jo Aag Lagaye Usey Kaun Bhujhaye.

Begin the Kishore era and the highly philosophical lines from the musical hit Amar Prem.

12) Dikha Ye Diye Yun. Ki Bekhud Kiya

A haunting song from Bazaar, a tragic love story ending in of course true tragic way.

13) Hum Se Aaya Na Gaya Tumse Bhulaya Na Gaya

Talat Mehmood for Madan Mohan in Dekh Kabira Roya, terrific lyrics, again do read farookhs revu.

Pyar ka baagh Lagaya tha Ujadne Ke Liye,

Iss Tarah Ujade Ki Phir Humse Basaya Na Gaya

14) Jaaye Tho Jaaye Kahaan Samjhe Ga Kaun Yahaan

Wow! this is my favourite among Dev+Talat Mehmood from Taxi Driver.

Unka Bhi Gum Hain. Apna Bhi Gum Hain.

Ab Dil Ke Bachne Ki Ummeed Kam Hain.

Ik Manzil Sau Toofan.

15) Kahaan Se Aaye Badra Ghulta Jaaye Kajra

A very nice evergreen classical song from Chasme Baddoor by Vani Jayraam and Yesudas.

16) Kaise Kahen Hum Pyaar Ne Humko Kya Kya Khel Dikhaye.

Yun Sharamayee Kismat Humse Hum Khudd Se Sharmaye.

Baago Ko Tho pathjhad Loote, Loota Hame Tho Pyaar Ne

Duniya Marti Maut Se Lekin Maara Hame Tho Pyaar Ne.

Uspar Kishore’s voice and SD’s music.

17) Dil Aisa Kisine Mera Thoda, Barbadi Ki Taraf Aisa Moda,

Ek Bhale Maanus Ko, Amanush Banakar Choda, .

Some of the thought provoking songs are dark in nature. This one sure is one of them for Tragedies.

Dooba Suraj Phir Se Nikle, Rehta Nahin Hain Andhera

Mera Suraj Aise Dooba, Dekha Na Maine Dobara,

18) Tanhayee, Dil Ke Raaste Mein Kaisi Thokar Maine Khayee.

Aamir at its best. Without Aamir, Shankar Mahadevan and the trio’s music would not have been as captivating. The song ends with Aamir crying helplessly on the phone with his parents. That added a lot to the movie on the whole.

19) Meri Bheegi Bheegi Si Palko Pe Rah Gaye Jaise Mere Sapne Bichadke.

Kishore for Sanjeev Kumar in Anamika. Most of us know the famous lines. Aag Se Naata, Naari Se Rishta Kaahe Mann Samjah Na Paay.

20) Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil Mere Kaam Ki Nahin

The best one to end the revu with. Rafi+ Madan Mohan+ Kaifi Azmi’s tribute to Ranjha.

There are many other that I have missed. Remind me in comments.;-)
