It is not a easy job. I have selected the songs based on the films in which all the songs are excellent. Majority of the songs are still popular. Due to limitations I am unable to complete entire list of 20 in details as well as unable to include some of the versatile music director’s film. Following are my 20 Best Hindi Film Album as per my choice. List is in descending orders of the years released.
1)'BARASAT'(1950)
SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN
Being First Film of Shankar-Jaikishan, every best effort was put to concentrate on each and every songs. Lata Mangeshkar and Shankar-Jaikishan became famous after this film. I feel fresh when I listen to the following songs. * Muze Kisise Pyar Ho Gaya* Jiya Bequrar Hai Chhayee * Patali Kamar Hai * Bichhade Hue Paradesi * Hawa Main Udata Jaye * Chhod Gaye Balam * Nain Zindagi Main Haradam* Ab Mera Kaun Sahara * Meri Aankhon Main Bas Gaya * Barasat Main Ham Se Mile
2)'ANARKALI'(1953)
C. RAMCHANDRA
What a music. Real'class' of Hindi Film Music. All songs hit and melodious. * Yeh Zindi Usiki Hai * Aaja Ab To Aaja * Muzase Puchh Mere * Dua Kar Game Dil * Jaag Dard-E-Ishq Jaag* Mohabbat Aisi Dhadakan * Zamana Ye Samaza Ke Hum * Zindagi Pyar Ki Do Chaar * O Aasman Wale
3)'NAGIN'(1955)
HEMANT KUMAR
I feel the songs of NAGIN are evergreen songs. All the songs are good and you will enjoy each and every song. I am of the opinion that among the music directors, who were from Bengal, Hemant Kumar was the best. You can really enjoy the'bengali folk touch' in his music. * Man Dole Mera Tan Dole * Tere Dwar Khada Ek Jogi* Sun Rasiya Man Basiya* Yad Rakhana Pyar Ki Nishani* Sunari Sakhi * Mera Dil Ye Pukare Aaja* Jadugar Sainyya* Mere Badari Main Chhup Gaya. * O Zindagi Ke Dene Wale.
4) “BASANT BAHAR”(1959)
SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN
All the songs in this film are classical based songs are one of the best in Hindi Film Music. As such Shankar-Jaikishan have used classical “ragas” in majority of their compositions but “Basanst Bahar” was a special. * Ketki Gulab * Main Piya Teri * Ja Ja Re Ja Balama* Badi Der Bhai Badi Der Bhai* Bhay Bhanjana Vandana * Nain Mile Chain Kahan* Kar Gaya Re Kar Gaya * Duniya Na Bhaye Mohe
5) “SAHIB BIBI AUR GHULAM”(1961)
HEMANT KUMAR
Fabulous music. Hemant Kumar was at his peak. The song list is self explanatory. * Na Ja O Sainya Chhuda Ke Bainyya * Bhanwara Bada Naadan Hai * Piya Aiso Jiya Main Samayi Gayo * Meri Baat Rahi Mere Man Main* Koi Dur Se Aawaz De Chale Aao* Sakhiya Aaj Muze Nind Nahin* Meri Jaan O Meri Jaan
6) “PARASMANI”(1963)
LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL
Rousing start by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Being First Film of LP, they make sure that all the songs are composed as per the standard of early Sixties. The outcome was outstanding. Though the Film “Parasmani” was a mystical film, the film is still remember only because of its immortal songs. Who can forget * Hasta Hua Nurani Chehara…. * Wo Jab Yaad Aaye Bahot Yaad Aaye * Ooi Ma Ooi Ma Ye Kya Ho Gaya * Chori Chori Jo Tumse Mili * Mere Dil Main Halki See. * Roshan Tumhi Se Duniya.
7) “DOSTI”(1964)
LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL
How to use “classical ragas”; make it little simpler to create Mass Appealing and Popular Songs is a best example of “Dosti” songs. Mohammad Rafi was at its best. Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s outstanding music. LP composed majority of the songs in “Pahadi Raag”. * Chahunga Mian Tuze Sanz Sawere. * Mera To Jo Bhi Kadam Hai. * Koyi Jab Raah Na Paye. * Janewalo Jara Mudake Dekho Muze. * Rahi Manawa Dukhati Chinta. * Gudiya Hamase Ruthi Rahogi.
8) “ SATI-SAWITRI”(1964)
LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL
All the songs by Lata Mangeshkar. I feel Lata and Laxmikant-Pyarelal along with Pandit Bharat Vyas, who has written the songs, have done their best to give real “Class”. All the words in each of the songs have a special meaning in it. The best use of “Raag Yaman Kalyan” and “Rag Kalawati”. The Cassets/CD of this film are still in demand. This mythological film is remembered only because of its “EVERFRESH” music. * Jeevan Dor Tumhi Sang Bandhi … * Tum Gagan Ke Chandram Ho * Kabhi To Miloge Jeevan Sathi * Sakhiri Pee Ka Naam Na Puchho * Itani Jaldi Kya Hai Gori Sajan Ke * Muze Loot Ke Na Jana
9) “GUIDE”(1966)
S. D. BURMAN
I have no words to say about the music of “Guide”. Everything was the best in Guide. If Best= Guide then SD’s music was the “Real Best”. * Gata Rahe Mera Dil. * Tere Mere Sapane * Kyase Kya Ho Gaya * Piya Tose Naina Lage * Mose Chhal Kiye Jaye * Din Dhal Jaye Raat Na * Kanto Se Khinch Ke Ye * Wahan Koun Hai Tera
10) “KOHARA”(1966)
HEMANT KUMAR
Hemant Kumar was versatile music director, besides good singer(I feel Adanan Sani has a similar voice that of Hemant Kumar). The music composition of “Kohara” is real melody. You will feel real “Bengali Touch” in all the songs. * Ye Nayan Dare Dare … * Zum Zum Dhalti Raat * O Bekarar-E-Dil * Raah Bani Khud Manzeel * Leke Chale Muze Apane
11) “TEESARI KASAM”(1966)
SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN
The real folk music from Uttar Pradesh. Shankar-Jaikishan were having mastery in folk music. Not only that the songs used to become immensely popular. The music of Teesari Kasam is the best example. * Sajan Re Zuth Mat Bolo * Sajanwa Bari Ho Gaye * Pan Khaye Saiyya Hamaro * Chalat Musafir Moh Liya Re * Chhotise Ye Zindagane * Aa Abhi Ja Raat Dahalne
12) “SARASWATICHANDRA”(1967)
KALYANJI-ANANDJI
The best of Kalyanji-Anandji. When I herd first time I can’t believe this is the music of Kalyanji-Anandji. Superb Music. Excellent use of Gujarati Folk Music, Classical, Sad, Love songs. One must have this Album. * Chandan Sa Badan … * Main To Bhool Chali * Chhod De Saari Duniya * Hum Ne Apana Sab Kuchh * Phool Tumhe Bheja Hai
13) “MILAN”(1967)
LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL
All songs evergreen and ever fresh. The Real and Original Melody of LP. The music is extremely popular even today. * Sawan Ka Mahina * Hum Tum Yug Yug Se * Bol Gori Bol Tera * Ram Kare Aisa Ho Jaye * Mubaraq Ho Sabko * Aaj Dil Pe Koi Jor Chalata
14) “JAL BIN MACHHALI NRITYA BIN BIJALI”(1971)
LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL
All together different type of music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. One of the best in Bharat Natyam Dance based songs. Lata and Laxmi-Pyare were at their best. This was the first ever Stereo Recording of the Film Song. In 1971 all the Records of the films were sold out even before the release of the film. Extraordinary Music. * Man Ki Pyas Mere Man * Baat Hai Ek Bund See * Kajara Laga Ke * Jo Main Chali * O Mitawa O Mitawa* Taron Ne Sajake
