There is no dearth of admiring songs in Bollywood music. Lovers have always been singing praises for their beloveds. However admiration is not just for romantic lovers, it is also for the parents or the offspring or the sibling or likewise. I have selected a few(out of lacs) admiring songs which I consider excellent, for this review. I have not covered songs sung by friends for each other because a separate review can be dedicated to friendship-based songs. My list of top twenty admiring songs is definitely a subjective one as everybody can prepare his / her list according to personal choice.
Woh To Hai Albela, Hazaaron Mein Akela(Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na - 1994): This song is the numero uno admiring song for me because I find it very close to my heart and I cannot stop my tears when I watch this song on the screen. It's sung for Shah Rukh Khan in the movie by his sister, mother and teacher(Nasiruddin Shah) complaining to his father that he never understood the value of his son. This beautiful lyric has been authored by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Devki Pandit and Kumar Sanu have sung it under the music direction of Jatin Lalit.
Chandan Sa Badan, Chanchal Chitvan(Saraswatichandra - 1968): An immortal admiring song sung by Mukesh and Lata separately for Maneesh and Nutan respectively on the screen. Indeevar's beautiful lyric has been composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
Chaudvin Ka Chaand Ho Ya Aaftaab Ho(Chaudhvin Ka Chaand - 1961): Mohammed Rafi's immortal admiring song presented by Guru Dutt on the screen, singing for his sweetheart - Waheeda Rehman in the movie. Ravi has composed Shakeel Badayuni's great lyric.
4. Zikr Hota Hai Jab Qayaamat Ka, Tere Jalwon Ki Baat Hoti Hai(My Love - 1970): Mukesh's beautiful admiring song picturized on Shashi Kapoor who sings it for Sharmila Tagore. Underrated music director - Daan Singh has composed the tune for the lyric of Anand Bakshi.
Tere Husn Ki Kya Tareef Karoon, Kuchh Kehte Huye Main Darta Hoon(Leader - 1964): My personal favourite admiring song, sung by Rafi and Lata who have sung it for Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala on the screen. Naushad has composed Shakeel Badayuni's lyric.
Uden Jab Jab Zulfen Teri (Naya Daur - 1957): The classic admiring duet of Asha and Rafi who have sung it for Vyjayanthimala and Dilip Kumar on the screen. Saahir's lyric has been melodiously composed by O.P. Nayyar.
Ab Kya Misaal Doon Main Tumhaare Shabaab Ki (Aarti - 1962): Rafi's great admiring song which is picturized on Pradeep Kumar who sings it for Meena Kumari in the movie. Roshan has composed the lyric of Majrooh Sultanpuri.
Chehre Pe Khushi Chha Jaati Hai(Waqt - 1965): My favourite admiring song which Asha has sung for Saadhna who admires her beau - Sunil Dutt through this song. Ravi has composed Saahir's lyric.
9. Tum Gagan Ke Chandrama Ho, Main Dhara Ki Dhool Hoon(Sati Savitri - 1964): A very touching admiring duet of Lata and Manna Dey, picturized on Mahipal and Anjali Devi, penned by Bharat Vyas and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
10. Aye Phoolon Ki Rani, Bahaaron Ki Malika (Aarzoo - 1965): Rafi's immensely popular song picturized on Rajender Kumar praising Saadhna through it. Shankar-Jaikishan's composition is for the lyric of Hasrat Jaipuri.
- Tu Kitni Achchhi Hai, Tu Kitni Bholi Hai, Pyari Pyari Hai O Maa(Raja Aur Rank - 1968): A son (Mahesh) admires his mother(Nirupa Roy) through this song in the voice of Lata. Laxmikant Pyarelal have composed the lyric of Anand Bakshi.
12. Usko Nahin Dekha Humne Kabhi Par Uski Zaroorat Kya Hogi(Daadi Maa - 1966): Another song in mother's praise, sung by Manna Dey and Mahendra Kapoor under the music direction of Roshan with the credit of lyric going to Majrooh. It's been picturized on Dilip Raj and Kashinath with Beena Rai being their mother.
Tujhe Sooraj Kahun Ya Chanda, Tujhe Deep Kahun Ya Taara(Ek Phool Do Maali - 1969): A proud father praises his little son through this classic song. It's been picturized on Balraaj Saahni and sung by Manna Dey. Ravi has composed the lyric of Prem Dhawan.
Juhi Ki Kali Meri Laadli(Dil Ek Mandir - 1963): A mother praising her little daughter with motherly affection in this song sung by Suman Kalyanpur in the music direction of Shankar-Jaikishan with the lyric penned by Shailendra.
15. Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka Sabka Kehna Hai, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai (Hare Rama Hare Krishna - 1971): A brother praises his sister through this song. It's been sung by Kishore Kumar in the music direction of R.D. Burman with the lyric being of Anand Bakshi and child artists have performed on it.
16. Mere Bhaiya, Mere Chanda, Mere Anmol Ratan (Kaajal - 1965): A sister praising her brother through this song. Meena Kumari does it for her brother Dharmendra in Asha's voice. Ravi has composed Saahir's lyric.
17. Chaand Jaise Mukhade Pe Bindiya Sitaara(Saawan Ko Aane Do - 1979): A touching song of Yesudas under the composition of Rajkamal, picturized on Arun Govil with the lyric being of P. Pankaj.
Tujhe Dekh Kar Jag Waale Par Yakeen Nahi Kyun Kar Hoga(Saawan Ko Aane Do - 1979): Same credits but for the lyric being of Indeewar.
Bole To Baansuri Kahin Bajti Sunaai De(Saawan Ko Aane Do - 1979): Same credits but for the lyric being of Pooran Kumar Hosh.
Chaand Taare Phool Shabnam, Tumse Achchha Kaun Hai(Tumse Achchha Kaun Hai - 2002): My favourite admiring song, picturized on Nakul Kapoor(admiring Aarti Chhabaria). Sameer's lyric has been composed by Nadeem Shravan.
In addition to the above, the following admiring songs are also worth a mention here:
1. Yun To Humne Laakh Haseen Dekhe Hain, Tumsa Nahin Dekha(Tumsa Nahin Dekha - 1957): Shammi Kapoor's trend-setting song sung by him for Ameeta in the movie. Rafi has given voice for the lyric of Saahir and composition of O.P. Nayyar.
Aankhon Mein Masti Sharaab Ki(Chhaya - 1961): A melodious admiring song of Talat Mahmood sung for Sunil Dutt(praising Asha Parekh). Rajinder Krishan's lyric has been composed by Salil Chaudhary.
Husn Waale Tera Jawaab Nahin(Gharaana - 1961): Rajendra Kumar sings this song for Asha Parekh in Rafi's voice with the lyric being of Shakeel Badayuni, compsed by Ravi.
Teri Pyari Pyari Soorat Ko Kisi Ki Nazar Na Lage(Sasuraal – 1961): Rafi's immensely popular song composed by Shankar-Jaikishan with the lyric being of Hasrat Jaipuri. Rajender Kumar sings it in praise of B. Saroja Devi.
Bikhra Ke Zulfen Chaman Mein Na Jaana(Nazraana - 1961): A hilarious Mukesh-Lata duet picturized on Raj Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala. Rajinder Krishan's lyric has been composed by Ravi.
