Music of my life
Jun 21, 2001 10:02 PM 4528 Views

I've read a bunch of top twenty lists, and after careful constructing, compiled my own little list. These are the songs that move me, that get me going, that inspire and motivate me. They span many genres and decades. No particular order.

  1. Ain't no Sunshine-Bill Withers

You think that as adamant as I am about good grammer, I would abhor this song, that this would be the very last song I would listen to, let alone put on my top twenty. Well, I just happen to like this song, a lot.

  1. Thank You-Dido

Dido has a smooth voice that just blend right in with the music, making it really groovin' latin tune.

  1. I will Survive-Gloria Gaynor

This song has been sung by nearly every woman who has ever gone through a breakup. I'm sure everyone has uttered the phrase once or twice while going through a tough times.

  1. Staying Alive-BeeGees

Do I feel a little boogie fever coming on? This is my ultimate feel good song, sure to get me in a good mood.

  1. Can't fight the Moonlight-LeeAnn Rhimes

I liked the movie'Coyote Ugly' and the song that was in it. That's the only way LeeAnn Rhimes got into my top twenty. I love the keyboards and the chord change in the bridge.

  1. How can I help you say goodbye-Patty Loveless

I first heard this song when I was about ten. I cried. Five years later they played the song on the radio. I cried. I don't cry often. Subject closed.

  1. Love Letters in the Sand-Pat Boone/Sixpence none the Richer

The first version of this song is country style, the second version is acoustic. I like the second. This is the kind of song you sing at the top of your lungs in the shower(And the kind your dog will howl to)

  1. Undun-Guess Who

A flowing song about a girl who tried too hard, reached too far, stretched herself until she broke. I can identify sometimes.

  1. Downtown-Petula Clark

I used to live in Cleveland, Ohio, a big town with big buildings. Downtown Cleveland was the most captivating place I have ever been(Shows you I don't get out much). Everytime I hear this song, I reminisce about the old days there.

  1. You don't own me-Leslie Gore

A girl who sets standards. I like it.

  1. Can't take my eyes off of you-Frankie Valli

I first heard this song in'Conspiracy Theory' and again in'Ten things I hate about you'. A great love song.

  1. Sweet Dreams-Eurythmics

I first heard this song in the movie'House on Haunted Hill'. When I heard the original, I was hooked. A steady beat with a cool synthesizer.

  1. Dreaming of You-Selena

I heard this song in the movie'Selena'. I cried. You know how that goes.

  1. Head over feet-Alanis Morrisette

A sweet, beautiful song by a truly unique singer. I fell head over feet when I heard it.

  1. Crusin'-Huey Lewis and Gwynyth Paltrow

This is a song you can cruise to on a dark country road that stretches on for mile. Very cool.

  1. You must love me-Madonna

This song was written expressly for the movie'Evita'. It is a sad song about a woman whose ideals and life are fading fast as she struggles to hold on.

  1. These boots were made for walking-Nancy Sinatra

Another song about a girl dumping her no-good lover. Cool guitar.

  1. Barracuda-Heart

Ooh, Barracuda! Need I say more?

  1. The Sign-Ace of Base

Awesome song by an awesome group. For detail read the review on Ace of base.

  1. All that she wants-Ace of Base

Ace of Base makes history as the only band to make it on my top twenty list twice. That's because they're my favorite band and I can do that. This song is on here, merely because I dig the bari sax.

Well, thank you for staying with me through twenty of the best song I have ever heard. There certainly is a variety on here, from disco to country, from swedish pop groups to latin-american singers, from the sixties to the present. Hope you enjoyed the ride!
