Best bikes in respective segments

This is my 2nd rvu and this is for the best bikes in their respective segments.

Sorry I omitted the 100 cc segment but it can be only 8000 charaters.

EXECUTIVE SEGMENT (125cc)

Bajaj Discover- The 125 cc class mean slightly improved performance with slightly decreased FE along with increased comfort. But someone clearly forgot to tell this to Bajaj Auto who have given us a lively performer along with the same FE which the 100cc commuters give. But the downside is the design which clearly looks as a scaled down version of the hugely popular Pulsar twins. But the best 125 cc bike if u are looking 4 more performance.

Hero Honda Super Splendour- Welcome the new variant of the immensely popular Splendour. This bike gives more mileage than 100cc mopeds(soreee commuters) but the performance is only  a tad more than its 100cc counterparts. It has got the sloper engine and almost has the same design as the 100cc splendour save the fairing. It gives a mileage of around 70-75 kmpl. A brilliant bike, but if u love a lil’ bit of performance then go in 4 the Discover. If u value FE over all else go 4 the HH Super Spleandour and u’ll not regret it.

150 cc CLASS

Bajaj Pulsar 150 dtsi (wid alloys and all)- This is the single bike which redefined the performance segment and made this segment mainstream. Consider this- u get mag wheels, gas shocks, beautiful body, fat tyres, gud FE, gud performance, allover brilliant engineering, electric start, low sporty handlebars 4 only Rs 54 k. To put things into perspective, the HH CBZ without all above said things comes for the same price tag. Truly bajaj has killed all the competition except, wait for it, the Honda Unicorn.

0-60 kmph     6 seconds

0-100 kmph   22 seconds

Top speed      111 kmph

Mileage          50-55 kmpl

Honda Unicorn- We’ve waited for Honda to enter the Indian market 4 years and now it finally has. But with what- same performance and mileage figures that the Pulsar gives, a puny horn, puny tyres, puny engine sound, mish mash design and a commuter style seating position. But there are the positives too- engine smoothness, great handling and above all the “HONDA” brandname. So unless u are a Honda cultist, plz do urself a favour and go to a Bajaj showroom and fet urself a Bajaj Pulsar 150 Dtsi.

PERFORMANCE BIKES (cc no bar)

This is my favourite segment which consist of powerful bikes. 4 strokers as well as 2 strokers. 100cc as well as 350 cc. These bikes have only one thing in common, to give their rider huge gobs of performance. I too own a performance bike, the Bajaj Pulsar 180 Dtsi(old) which is an absolutely mercurial machine. So here are the performance bikes-

Yamaha RX 100- How cud I leave out the RX. It begs to be driven rashly and then lets out one of the most erotic sounds one can hear on a motorcycle. It was affordable and it is now too, it is available for around 5k to 10k in gud condition. It had a 0-60 time of  6.5 seconds which looked like around 4 seconds and a top speed of 105-110 kmph. But the bad thing is the FE figure of around 35-40. Performance enthusiasts wont mind that but the common man wud. But then the common man wouldn’t buy the RX 100 for its FE.

Its initial pik up is awesome but after 50-60 kmph the pulsar 150 overtakes it. 2 strokes are never meant to be in stock. So a ported (modified) RX can do a 0-60 in around 3.5 seconds and blast to top speed of 130 kmph.

Suzuki Shogun- This is one bike which takes my breath away. It is already overported. It is even more fun to drive than the RX 100. It does a 0-60 kmph in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 110-115 kmph. It out accelerates a pulsar 150 till its top speed but is below the performance of the 180 and karizma but feels a lot lot faster.  But it was expensive when it was in production. This accounts for the highish price  of a shogun. It is rightly known as the BOSS. It has the soundtrack of a  dirt bike. But there is a big downside, obviously its mileage. Its FE was a scant  25-30 kmpl which further went down if driven very rashly. My frnd’s shogun returns him 15 kmpl but he has modified the bike 4 more performance and he knows where every single drop of petrol goes. Spares are available but buy only if u can afford the FE.

Yamaha RXZ- Hurry all u 2 stroke terrorists. Buy this bike right now as the govt of India is going to make this bike history in about 6 months. This is the only 2 stroke performance bike in production right now. It is an absolutely brilliant machine which can teach some 4 strokes a lesson. It’s performance is right now is dismal (comparatively) because of the emission norms but if u put the proton exhaust and port the engine, then the bike will do 0-60 in 4seconds and scream to a top speed of 130-135 kmph. But it is a little bit expensive but wud return around 35 kmpl. Yamaha is absolutely ignoring this bike but concentrating on commuters like Fazer, crux etc… strange. Buy this bike if u want to buy a brand new 2 stroker.

Pulsar 180 (all versions)- This bike brought the evolution of the 4-stroke performance bike. The pulsar classic was a sweet handler but felt a little bit underpowered. To solve the problem Bajaj brought out the p180 Dtsi which was a monster. It was capable of doing 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 0-100 in 14-15 seconds with a top whack of 130 kmph.

I myself have done 137 kmph (on speedo). This is because of speedo error. The pulsar 180 dtsi (old) beat the larger engined karizma(zma) in acceleration, sound, top speed, mileage and handling. But it is not as comfortable as  zma nor is it as good looking. Also there are too many pulsars to give someone a complex. There is no difference b/w p150 and p180. This is one major disadvantage. It returns 40 –50 kmpl. The FE is just killing.

Then I don’t know why the bajaj guys brought out the new 180. alloys and shocks are ok but the disappointingly the performance has gone down. It has a top speed of only 115 kmph. But still if u want more performance from the 150 but don’t have the 70 k needed to buy zma buy the new 180. It feels faster than zma to 60 kmph after which it is slower.

But it is priced at a knockout price of 59 k only.

Karizma zma)- This is gud bike but it is lil’ bit overpriced and gets smoked off by the smaller engined p180 (old). But still if u have the moolah, this is the bike to buy because of its design, and because it is rare. But beware of the FE. It returns 20-25 kmpl which is very low 4 a 4 stroker. It has 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds and a 0-100 time of 15-16 seconds. Top speed of 125 kmph.it is definately not value for money but a gud bike to show off.

Buy only if u have the money. The zma beats the new 180 dtsi comfortably and it is now the fastest production bike in India.

RD 350- The icon of Indian motorcycling. It is a monster of a bike. Does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, 0-100 in 7.5 seconds, 0-150 in 15 seconds. Top speed of 160 kmph. What can I say about it. U have to ride it to believe it. It is just not the raw figures of the 0-60 or 0-100 but in the manner it does them. An absolutely hooligan bike. Let off the clutch in the wrong way and it does a full fledged wheelie. But and that’s a big but, all good things come expensive and so does this. A FE figure of 10-15 kmpl is not gud at all. But if u own a petrol pump this is the bike 4 u.

This was my rvu of  best bikes in their segments. Plz pass comments if u think I am wrong abot some bike. I have ridden all these bikes so that I can pass my judjement on the. Astalavista Baby.
