Do you remember last one day world cup at West Indies ? Many cricket lovers in India forget it. Why? Because of unexcited Matches, India lost against Bangldesh and removal from super six and failure of West Indians as a host country. Many viewers also remember Bob Vulmer’s (Pakistan’s team coach) death during World cup at West Indies. After that in the same year means in 2007, India won first inaugural twenty-20 world cup at South Africa against Pakistan. Second twenty-20 world cup has been won by Pakistan.
My question is : “After IPL -3’s uncountable matches (more controversy than matches) , Will ICC world cup twenty 20 get popularity or more viewership like first world T20 ? Many cricket lovers will say “yes”.
But there are many factors which prevents World cup T20 from getting more “TRP” or “Audience”. The reasons are as follows :
(1) Cricket is not now a game only. There are many things like “Satta Bazaar”, “Commercial Marketing” are now associated with cricket. In India, Many people play Satta and they don’t inform family about it. Teenagers are mostly involved in this group. You may be disagree but this is truth. Now, Many matches are scheduled at late night (after 12), according to Indian time . This will surely decrease people’s interest in Satta. Ultimately , Cricket has to suffer. It is quotation : “More satta, more excitement” . Even media, commercial marketing will also take no interest in world cup because of time”
(2) When first world cup was played, it was very innovative and new format. Audience enjoy it as 3 hour film and super blasting batting of star batsman. Now there are many T20 throughout the years. And IPL-3 has lost charm of T20 matches. After viewing, more than 50 matches of IPL Indian audience will never get that charm which they have enjoyed during first world cup.
(3) West Indies as a host country from 3 years always proves less effective for organizing matches. Remember last world cup, they have to distribute tickets free of cost to school children and begs for viewing world cup. If this world cup organize by India or SA or Australia, then audience will find themselves in queue of ticket windows.
(4) The late night matches in summer will definitely ruin charm of world cup matches. Even grouping of teams is not proper. India takes on Afghanistan ( A new comer) . There are four groups and in short , there is one weak team in each group. So two strong team will definitely enter in second round without any struggle.
In a nut shell, ICC world cup Twenty 20 will not get more viewership. I may be wrong but it seems like that. I just loved first inaugural world cup in 2007. I still remember that days. Even there was heavy storm and rain fall, people want to see semi final against Ausies. And How can anyone forget match with Pakistan ? Misbah’s Last stroke? Shreesanth’s crucial catch? Yuvraj’s 666666 in Broad’s over? You will miss all these things when you see this world cup .
