From the onset I would like to make it clear that I watched Troy on a pirated DVD with no the best print in the world. This, however is little consolation to the fact that Troy failed to live up to much of its expectations.
The movie is a shadow of the mighty Gladiator and Brad Pitt is no Russel Crowe. Although I admire Pitt, he fails to do justice to the role. He succeeds in looking pretty, but an Oscar nomination is miles away. The director too has to take blame for letting the film drag too long. I actually fell of to sleep for half an hour in between and woke up and found out I did'nt miss much. So much for Illiad and his epic. The battle sequences too fail to impress and lack the edge that the scenes in Gladiator had.
All in all, Troy is an outstanding example of what most Hindi films are, good stories but bad handling of the subject. Although the film desrves to be watched atleast once, it is far from being a classic. Maybe I'm in too much of awe of Gladiator, but I'd like to end by saying Troy failed to deliver the goods.
