WOW~!  was the only reaction I could give to this film that was released as a sequel to the 1981 ‘Tron’ which was itself the first computer generated movie. Lets make this simple…. audiences who have or had no interest towards gaming, animation and virtual reality would find this movie a total drag. And yes, the promos must have showed you that this movie was a lot about slipping into THAT impossible world.

First things first. A short and simple intro to what ‘Tron’ means would be really useful. The original ‘Tron’ was about a game-designer who was cheated by his colleague and thrown out of his company ENCOM. He tried to hack into the company’s system and after a hiatus, gets ‘digitized’ or rather pulled into the computer world as another ‘program’. How he makes it back to the real world with all the evidence of his double-cross makes up the story.

Tron – Legacy picks up a few years after the first movie. The movie talks about a concept that was relevant 30 years ago, So once the jinx is broken, its more like any other adventure movie that came between then and now. Since the movie lays its focus solely on the depiction of the how the computer world would be, the emphasis is directly laid on the aesthetics, designs and adventure.

Full marks to the design team. This is by and large the best CGI movie I’ve seen in recent times and that includes Avatar. Bike races, flights, split fighting cells, freight trains, buildings … you name it , you got it.

Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn, the computer genius, who has suddenly disappeared, without anyone’s knowledge. Garrett Hedlund plays the cool Sam Flynn, his son and the main protagonist of the movie. A trim and sexy Olivia Wilde plays his love interest. Though the theory of clone and corruption is not really new for us, the treatment makes this movie stand out. The screenplay, editing, direction all are laid out to support the main concept which talks about an adventure of a lifetime. And as most recent reviews suggested this is not a total zero in these key areas.

The electronic music by Daft-Punk was just legendary!! clearly unorthodox and superbly futuristic. :D more than full marks to them.

Just the way the original Tron stood out as a cult classic in its time. This movie will stand out for quite a few years as a bench mark for best CGI work. Personally I would rate Tron higher than Avataar.
