Story:

This book was my birthday gift. It is a historical novel on the partition of India, focussing on the effect of the partition on the people, rather than discuss just the politics.

The story is about a small village near the India-Pakistan border where people lived happily. Once partition was announced, mobs from elsewhere started to visit the village, and incited people to target others based on their religion. Some people had their own benefits to cater to, which made them sacrifice other's peace. Everyone turned savage, everyone murdered, raped and looted.

In the end, what came out was a corrupt system, where the law enforcement agency is at the whim of the government which often manipulated the uneducated, poor common people and used them to their own benefit.
