It’s instantly clear that the Fortuner is well suited to any enviTestingronyent. Its body looks tough and durable. 18-inch alloy wheels for VXR and 17-inch alloy wheels for EXR & GXR models, lift the SUV high above the road and a chrome grille between bold headlamps add to its confident personality. Standard-fit side steps, roof rails and front fog lights are all practical details that make journeys more convenient. They’re found alongside a chrome exhaust tip, chrome door handles and body-colored door mirrors.
Resilience is also a trait of the cabin where robust moldings retain a quality look and feel for years. The fabric seats for selected models are supportive and comfortable no matter how long you spend at the wheel. The India-bound Toyota Fortuner 2016 will be made available with all-new ‘GD’ diesel engines – a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre – that will be benefited with Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion(ESTEC) and variable geometric turbocharger technologies. While the smaller engine generates a maximum power output of 160bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm, the 2.8-litre GD mill delivers power worth 177bhp against 450Nm(MT) and 400Nm(AT). Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox(depending upon the variant chosen). The SUV will come with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain capabilities.

Since the SUV’s new ‘GD’ diesel powertrains are claimed to be 10% more fuel efficient than the existing ‘KD’ series, the new Fortuner will return better mileage figures. The Toyota Fortuner’s new model will be lighter yet stiffer than the existing one, thanks to its modified IMV platform and the company’s new-generation architecture(TNGA). The new Toyota Fortuner 2016 is based on the company’s all-new platform that makes it more robust and safer than the outgoing model. Referred as the FIRM(Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism), this technology improves the front and side impact structure of the car, and also aids to its handling and ride quality. The front fascia of the SUV looks aggressive with features like a slimmer twin slat front grille, dual projector headlamps with LED elements and daytime running lights, modified front bumper with integrated reflectors, prominent bonnet and chromed fog lamps.

Latin New Car Assessment Program(NCAP)’s latest results for Toyota Fortuner 2016 SUV gave it a 5-star rating. The South American crash testing agency learnt that the new Toyota Fortuner’s occupant safety levels are equivalent to the new Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, and in certain bio-mechanical aspects it performed better than the latter one. The new Fortuner model, with a total score of 33.95 out of 37, has also achieved 5-star safety rating from Australasian NCAP.
