New Toyota Fortuner 2016, similar to its predecessor, seems to be an instant hit for the Janpanese carmaker in India. The proof of this lies in the fact that within few weeks of its arrival, the premium SUV has racked up 6, 200 bookings and over 16, 000 enquiries. The sterling response, however, has resulted into a waiting period of two months in some cities. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner petrol variants’ prices fall between Rs 25.92 lakh to Rs 27.61 lakh, while the diesel trims are available within the range of Rs 27.52 to Rs 31.12 lakh ( ex-showroom Delhi) . In this price range, the new Toyota SUV is competing against the Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The Toyota Fortuner 2016 has been made available in a total of six variants – 4×2 MT, 4×2 AT, 4×2 MT, 4×2 AT, 4×4 MT and 4×4 AT. Engine options for the SUV include – all-new 177bhp, 2.8-litre GD diesel and a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder petrol – borrowed from Innova Crysta. Interestingly, the new Toyota Fortuner is the only SUV in its league to offer a petrol option to buyers. While the petrol mill is available only on the 4×2 MT & 4×2 AT variants, and the diesel motor comes with 4×2 MT, 4×2 AT, 4×4 MT, 4×4 AT models. The 4WD system is reserved for the top-spec diesel models, and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters comes as an optional offering across all variants.
The manual transmission is a 6-speed unit. Toyota Fortuner sits on an all-new TNGA platform that also underpins the Innova Crysta. The SUV’s new-gen model is claimed to be high on fuel efficiency, performance and safety, thanks to its the new platform is stiffer and lighter. With premium styling, up-market cabin and more efficient engine lineup, the new Toyota Fortuner 2016 is surely a lot better product than the previous one. New Toyota Fortuner 2016 Waiting Period
Interestingly, the major demand said to be coming for the automatic diesel variants ( 2WD and 4WD) of the SUV. While deliveries of the diesel models are being promised for late December or early January, the petrol variants are delivered right away at most of the places. In order to reduce the backlog, buyers are being asked to purchase the ‘2017-manufactured’ model of the car. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner with Pearl White and Phantom Brown colours are relatively high-in-demand.
