This is one of the best 'curved' TVs around for the price at which it is available. I exchanged the ?grandfather? of television sets, a 20 year old 21' colour Dyanora with remote, for a Toshibaat an exchange price of Rs. 6990.00 in Sep?03.

The smartest feature of the TV is the remote. It's the best that's available in market. Very stylish and easy to hold with good features. I have used my bhaabi's Rs. 29,000 Samsung home theatre and even that system's remote is not as stylish, sleek or convenient.

The TV is pretty handsome (or beautiful) in its class (21' curved TVs).

Some of the basic features are:

200 Programmes

Plug & Play

Super Scene Control

5 Selectable Picture Modes

Sharpness Control

Audio Output: 240 W PMPO

Child Lock / TV Lock / Tuning / Panel Lock

Digital Noise Reducer

Zoom

Car Racing Game

Channel on Demand

Quick View

Telephone Diary / Calendar

Self Demo

However, the other interesting and cool features are these:

  • LD/VCD/DVD Compatible

  • Program Directory/Naming/Surfing (You can name a channel and can use a find button to locate the channel. You don't have to remember where the channel is saved, something similar to the Ctrl + F feature in Windows)

  • Channel Sorting (Your favourite channels can be tagged and therefore, you need not worry if your mom's regional channels are in between yours. When you surf, you will automatically skip them)

  • Music Mode (comes very handy when the songs are nice to listen but the videos aren't good to see, saves 40% power on electricity bill and 100% embarrassment)

  • Swap (This feature enables you to keep watching two channels with the same button. Good during those times when you have FRIENDS on Star World and Will & Grace on Zee English)

  • Program Timer (Enter the channel no. and time and the TV will automatically switch on that time. Comes handy if you wish to use your TV as an alarm. However, if the power supply is switched off, this doesn't work as the system works like Random Access Memory, only applicable when the system is on standby mode. None of the TVs, including the Samsung, has this technology to save the timing even after the power supply is taken off)

  • You also get a audio in point, which could be used to connect your small music system to the TV. This way, you get to control the sound out put of your small music system through your TV's remote. Ideal for Walkman systems that needs the much needed volume effect.

The Television bumped into a problem in the 2nd month and voila, what a customer service team they?ve got! I made a call and it landed up in a dedicated customer service center. A guy jotted down my points and assured prompt assistance. Next day, a service guy comes in, asked a few basic questions, checked the TV, opened the set, found the problem, resolved it in a jiffy, assured no problems and bingo, I was a satisfied customer.

I never had a problem after that. What?s more, 3 hours later, the customer service representative gave me a follow-up call asking about the service guy and the TV. This means that they some steady QA process in place for customer satisfaction. eCRM is happening!

All in all, it?s a good TV with excellent features if you are on a budget and are ok with curved TVs. The price should be the same without an exchange, as rates are falling. Flat TVs are steaming up the completion as they come in very reasonable prices. The least being Sansui Furratto for just Rs. 8, 300 /- (hardly any features as in Toshiba).

This is the TV for the middle class who would like to graduate to better Television viewing experience without spending a lot. Therefore, if budget is the constraint and if you still want good features, go for Toshiba.
