"Dont think, just do it Mav". Review on Top Gun: Maverick

Firstly, happy that I am writing a review at Mouthshut after almost many years.

Now the review. My goodness, "TopGun - Maverick" what a master piece. The big gun just blew of the minds of many.!

Ok so, before talking about this sequel movie, lets talk about TopGun(1986). Yes, many reviewers here would not even have born when the 1986 movie was released. I was a 1 yrs of child, that time. But, I came to know about TopGun only in 2002-03, when I started loving the Hollywood movie stuff. Not only just due to Hollywood, but also the TopGun Aviator Raybans where on demand those days. Those where also the days when the US began its fight back war against Taliban, assembling its troop via Aircraft carriers and we could see all those Tanks, Fighter Jets, Cobras, Hueys, M4s, etc. But I was able to watch the Top Gun only in 2006 with a lots of delay. The Movie was some what ok, because in 2006, we had much advanced movies with better CGIs. That time my top in list of Jet Fighter movies was Behind Enemy Lines along with Stealth. Even in 2003 I was in love with F22 and RAH-66 Comanches shown in Movie Hulk! So TopGun was just an another movie for me.

But Yeah, I was eagerly waiting for TopGun2 because I knew they would showcase Aircraft carriers, F18s, F22s and ofcourse F35s, And finally finally the movie came in 2022.

Genre - This is actually a Action Thriller War film.

Plot in simple - Capt Pete is now a Test Pilot. Could not reach to Admiral due to "Life mysteries" as he describes. For not obeying te orders again, he is put back to TopGun after 30 yrs but now as a teacher. His job is to train 12 Top Pilots for a dangerous mission. With one of the pilots being son of Pete's ex co-Pilot, who is accidently killed in 1986, with blame been put on Pete. The story then is into how he trains them or how he completes the mission, with all those emotions in the head with nations pride.

Why I gave the movie full 5 Stars -

1. The story which has both heart pumping actions and emotions too. Tom is very good at both.

   
   




2. Action Sequences. Oh my god, every single second of it, it feels like as if you are sitting in the pilot seat and taking in all those G-Force.

   
   




3. Direction and Cinematography - This is probably first in kind, where the actors seat themselves in the real F/A-18 hornets. and Tom, we already know that he is a qualified Pilot, so his stunts were real as usual. And yes, most importantly, the actors when inside the cockpit, have to handle the camera all by themselves. One flight cost many Crores. And if they miss or forget turn on the camera, the whole flight and money spent on it wasted.

   
   

Tom has done this for second time after he piloted in MI-Fallout.

1. Music - Hans Zimmer is never a failure. His music, is like Anirudh's music in Vikram Movie.

Who should Watch this movie -

Those who love the Jet fighters and War movie filled with emotions. Those who love the realist feel of a fighter jet.

The Scenes I loved -

Well, I loved the Entire movie. Every second was awesome.

But my favorites are those 2min 15second, where Maverick demonstrates in that F/A18 that the mission is possible his way. And the final fights where Mav and Rooster escape by stealing an F14 Tomcat. Those lines "He is Supersonic!". Wow Awesome.

Anyways, there where a lots of inaccuracies in the movie. But here are some of the possible Mistakes I found -

1. The mission's one of the main objective was, the whole team has to go on a low altitude flight for whole time avoid the radar and SAMs, but during the Pop up Strike, the planes have to pull up, reach the top end of mountain and dive back to hit the target and then pull up again to face the coffin corner. But when they do the fight climb up, they obviously would have come into radar screen.! But why the SAMs they missed before did not detect them. Do those SAMs have very low range?

   
   




2. Before Mav and Rooster try to steal the F14, we can see a lots of Soldiers around the Hanger. That F14 might be the only plane, which is still live, so the soldiers would definitely try to protect it and not abandoned it. But these 2 walk in and steal it, as if there is no one left alive at the base.! Even during take off, we cannot see anyone defending, as if they are talking off from friendly base.!

   
   




3. When the F14 takes off the short taxi-way, Mav flies it in such a manner that it misses the crash but by cutting off the front landing gear only. But with the angle the F14 was taking off, it would have wiped off all the 3 wheels of Land gear. How only front landing gear?

   
   




4. Near the end, 3rd SU-57 chases the F14 over the ocean with F14 out of ammo and Flares. The SU-57 was in line of missile fire and had the advantage of taking out the F14 easily, but was instead using only the Gun. Why? Because its a Movie?

   
   

Disappointments -

My little disappoint was, they did not showcase F35B and F35C. I did not expect F22 Raptors because TopGun movies are mostly connected with US Navy. Raptors are the Airforce planes. But they could have showcased F35, which is little disappointing.

Verdict - Absolutely Stunning movie for a Military technology lover. A Big Treat. I was waiting for such a movie in years. I have now watched this movie over 20 times but I still feel watching this movie again. If this was 3D movie, I am sure, many would have been flying in the theaters here and there with theater seats requiring seat belts. Ha Ha.

WOW! I Am now waiting for "TopGun - Rooster".
