What happened to these music directors in Tamizh?
Sometimes we hear a song and think that anyone of the raajas or rehmans would have composed, but will be surprised to find that the composer is actually different .I have tried to collect some of these composers who gave a hit, but somehow could not get many chances or went unnoticed .
I would request all genuine music lovers to hear the mentioned albums:)
1.Ranjith Barot
Well, everybody knows him -But so far he has composed just a single filmi album in tamizh .very unfortunately his contribution for Anu Malik was not credited properly .he did the BGM for few films like Aks .
He got a break thru VIP movie which had foot tapping numbers and the movie too did ok business .It had a great melody by name' Minnal Oru Kodi' .But very unfortunately he never got any other chance .He was orginally booked by Rambha for Three Roses but it went to Karthik raaja in the end .Except Rehman nobody has credited him propoerly!
He also Vande Matram-2, but poor guy again .it was compared to Vande Mataram-1 and it went to the dust .
Poor chap he is!
2.Ramesh Vinayagam
Well I clearly see a few eye brows here .Yes, this guy, i feel has amazing talent with a strong western classical tocuh and sheer orginality .He surfaced with the movie' University' .It had few hummable numbers, though neither the movie nor the soundtrack was noticed well .he got his luck again with kamal's nala Damayanti .Big actors, well known director, greta locales, good story .Well, teh song'enna ithu' was fair hit and so was teh western counrty song sung by Kamal Hassan .But again the soundtrcak was never publicised and hence very few guys noticed it properly .
The BGM of Naal adamayanti is worth a mention .Next he got offers in Azhagiye Theeye . Prakash Raaj Movie, an Ok hit with fabulous numbers .His penchant for classicoa music can be seen in the song' VizhigaLin' .But sometimes he does the mistake of singing his own songs .His voice is Ok, but fails misreably at high pitches .
ALthough his first movie was University ., thottu thottu song from'Hey nee romba .' was his first song .the song was an instant hit, though .
WHy I have I included .? All said and done, he barely gets a movie /year which is not fitting to his caliber!
3.Sirpi
Sirpi, i belive surfaced with a movie called Gokulam and and yet another SarathKumar movie .A big fan of Illayraaja, he started with tunes resembling'CHinna rasave chiitrembu' and followed the style in a couple of movies .
I was bit surprised when he delivered superb and different music for Ullathai Alli Thaa .Verey arabic and perefect for a movie like that .The songs were an instant hit and teh song' Azhagiye Laila' was an instant craze .He followed up with another hit called'Mettu Kudi' .My surprise eneded when I heard all the five songs from other composers too;) .Yes, all the songs were copied blantantly!
He did some movies like'thendinen vanthathu'( which had that notorious number'alps malai kaatru') and a few low budget movies .He came back strongly with good melodies in a Manoj Kumar movie Varushumellam Vasntham ( Bharathi raaja's son - ) and gave soulful melodies in the bharathi Raaja's movie, Era Nilam .
Sirpi did deliver a moderate hit'Unnai Nianithu', but that did not boost his career much .
Why have I included?Inspite of the fact that he has grown up as a music director, he has still seen as a copy cat and no good film offers in his hand!
4.Banapathra
Ever heard his name .Even I haven't!
He scored for little known movie called Kaiyodu Kai .An year ago, in my hometown, i was watching Olium Olium( unfortunately still my parents are opposed for a cable connection!, but I love DD as it bring some of the memories of my child hood:)) .I heard the song'Pen ondru' from Kaiodu Kai' .It had very poor visual, bad acting, ok picturisation and very poor marketing .In my expereince most of us who claim to be musical buffs are just'Popular music Buffs' or'Packaged music buffs' .The song first did not intrest me much as I was watching teh visuals only .But when teh second interlude came, i was really attracted to this movie .I went to web and heard all the songs, i liked all the songs except one .It is a not agreta album, but definetely a good album .
the mD had shown some melodic content even in the dapanguthu .Unfortunately never was this MD seen in any of the movies nor was he noticed for this movie .I specially reommend this .Hear( Innoru Bhoombhi, Pen Ondru, Sugam Idhu, Iru mugam)

5.Aathityan
Everybody knows Aathityan- For his hair looks , his gogles, his prention of folkish numbers .He was guy who gave the famous hit'Pathikichu' song from asuran .the sounds used in that movie was first of its kind and was well noticed .ALso the melody'O.vanmathee' .He followed up very well with SIvala Peri Paandi and the'oyilapaadum' song was again a good hit .Offers came pouring in and athiyan destroyed all his chances single handedly .:) His folk numbers were very bad and his rap songs were equally bad .Slowly he went to the dark with Remixes, participating in music competetitions as a judge, composing serial /TV channel songs .
Even now he is the first choice for all stage programs:).His latest'Kovilpatti Veeralkahmi' was mirror image of sivalaperi paandi .
I wish he does something different, and returns to the Asuran, Sivala peripandi caliber:)
6.SWara Raj
Well, swara Raj started with the movie called'Swarna mugi' .It had very good melodies, music where the words can be heard and the orchestration was quite good .The movies was publicized widely and the movie did good business, but no future opportunities for this music director .he is basically from Malayasia .he followed up with another Arun Kumar Movie( some'Kathirupeen .') which had 2 good melodies .
But bad luck - I believe he is coposing for malaysian -tamil songs:)
7.Jeyanth?
WHo is this Jeyanth?he is teh music composer for the movie' thullathi thirntha Kalam' .It had one Melody and a reasonably hit song' Deewana' .All teh other songs were good, though .
But after this, Sorry said TFm and closed the chapters for him!
8.Bharani
Everybody knows that Bharani gave a big hit with' Paarvai Ondre Pothume' .It had the worst posisble cast, worst story and yet great music .The songs were bit hit in the B and C centers .Bharani started as a lyricst and then started with Periyanna as a composer .Periyanna had reasonable hits, mostly of gana type and an OK melody'Nilave Nilave' .
After POP movie, he hibernated and again gave an avereage hit, charlie chaplin, starring prabhu and deva .The movie did good business and reasonably hit sound track .
But all the offers he got after that were all low budget movie s, mostly starring Kunal with bad story lines and bad cast .He gave reasonably good melodies in sinthaamal sitharammaal .The POP sequel like'Pesadhae kannum pesume' did no good to his career, though it had good songs .
He gave good BGm for the movie'Muthumidalama' movie and reaonably OK songs .
I belive if given a good chance he will prove his chance .
What do u say guys .Its time we stop calling ourselves musical buffs, when we hear what is thrown on us and not search good music, if not great!
