Chilling out in India
Jun 12, 2001 03:22 PM 42763 Views

When summer is on, the season for holidaying is on too. Many go for trekking trips which coincide with the corporate trips . many just want to chill out in some place cool feeling great that you have beaten the summer and well enjoying the cool and calm sections of nature's reserve.

I would definitely like to chill out during summer. here are the top five summer destinations which I think is heaven on earth .

1) Shillong(the Scotland of the East)

This place is situated in the North Eastern part of India. This is my favourite place as I was born and brought up here. Towering pine and eucalytus trees with fresh breeze carrying scents of pine and spring sunshine . warm sun shining on your back and well just laid back attitude of the place. just makes you forget everything. for a person who loves the hills, this is place one must go.

Access: Train to Guahati from Delhi, Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai, Mumbai. Three hour bus journey from Guahati.

Lodging: Hotel Pinewood, Centre Point, etc.

For more details, do read my review on Shillong

2) Nainital

The name is so romantic. It reminds me of cool lakes and green forests. a wonderful place to let down your hair. This place is situated in Uttar Pradesh. It is placed around a lake and comprises of a small town with small cottages and green forests.

You can relax your brain and go boating together with admiring the picturesque landscape. for fishing experts or for those who  want to try their hand at catching a fish. you can go fishing in the lake.

For horse lovers and for kids pony rides are a pleasure . you can travel through the ropeways and well you will be definitely inspired to try your hand at photography .

For the adventurous, trekking and mountaineering are additional bonus.

Access: Nainital is accessible by road from Delhi, Bareilly, Almora and Ranikhet. Private bus service is also available from Nainital to all the important cities and towns. Nainital is connected by rail to Delhi, Agra, Bareilly, and Lucknow to Kathgodam. Taxis and buses are available from Kathgodam railway station to Nainital.

Lodging: Lakeside Inn, Everest Hotel, etc.

Best time to visit this place is from March to June. Monsoons from July and August should be avoided.

3) Shimla

Known as the Summer capital of British India, this place is situated in Southern Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 2100m. The social life of the british society before independence in Shimla was legendary. It still has echoes of the British influence.

In central part of the town is Mall which almost divides the city in two parts. In the center of the city is the famous scandal point which was immortalised by Rudyard Kipling. From Christ Church to the Scandal point is the Ridge area. The Ridge is a place where all tourists flock together and spend time. From the ridge one can hire a pony to other places in Shimla.

Other scenic spots nearby include the 70m(230ft) high Chadwick Falls, the picnic spot of Prospect Hill, and Wildflower Hall, etc

All tourist facilities are available here but its gets expensive during peak season. Be prepared for water problem in this area.

Access: Public and private bus services connect Shimla to Delhi. The bus service is very frequent from Delhi. I would recommend the bus service compared to the train and the air services.

Lodging: Gulmarg Hotel, Honeymoon Inn, etc.

4) Kerela(God's Own country)

For beach lovers this place is heaven. Filled with natural beauty and clean air, this is a great place to relax. This place has got almost everything for everyone.

Its famous backwaters add to the marine beauty. If you want to be far from the madding crowd you can chill out in the popular Ayurvedic centres. Kerela sports India's finest beaches fringed with coconut palms and tranquility being the key word here. Kerela's hill stations also hold an exotic appeal to tourists. The tropical forests of the Western Ghats house a wide variety of flora and fauna along with plantations of tea, coffee, rubber, etc. Munnar, Peermade, etc are great hill stations to visit.

Dont forget to take the houseboat cruise in Kerela. its a wonderful experience which I recommend to all my friends.

Best time to visit this place is October to February.

Access: Kerela is linked by Air from Aggati, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, Trivandrum and by train from  Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Delhi, Madras, Mumbai, Trivandrum, Varanasi.

Lodging: Visit https://kerala-travel-tourism.com/kerala_hotels.htm for information on Hotels in Kerela.

5) Andaman & Nicobar Islands

This area of 300 richly forested tropical islands lies in the Bay of Bengal between India and Myanmar and stretches almost to the tip of Sumatra. Its an excellent for adventure tourism. Its an ideal place for snorkelling, scuba diving and lazing on the beach. Indian tourists may roam freely, but foreigners are constrained by a 30-day permit, allowing only limited travel.

Access: There are regular flights to Port Blair on South Andaman from Calcutta and Chennai(Madras); permits are issued at the airport on arrival. Infrequent boats from Calcutta and Chennai take four days to reach the islands; permits must be obtained in advance if arriving by boat.

Lodging visithttps://andaman.nic.in/tour/tour6.htm* for information about lodging and more information about this place.

Well there are a whole lot of places which you can visit. Leh, Darjeeling, Kodaikanal, Coorg, Jammu and  Kashmir, etc during the summer but these are best that I could find which covers the four ends of India. well almost.:):)

Hope this proved helpful to you.
